Hello. I have an '87 928. I'm looking to replace the old Blaupunkt deck. I usually try to use adapter harnesses with my installs but i'm not finding one for our cars...? Off with the factory harness?
I doubt that there is a solution available. The original harness incorporated the head unit as well as the factory amp.
Your best option may be to unplug the wires and start from scratch. Just leave as much of original wire as possible and remove as little as possible.
I ran all new wires with my '88 and I am having to do the same with my '89. There is plenty of room in the car to fit a new wire run w/out ruining the original harness, which is probubly old and brittle anyway. Wire patches have made my life close to imposible on my '89 and would not wish that on anyone.
I would advise you to leave as much as stock as possible. These cars are electrically very complex. A lot of this has to do with the fact that there are "many interlinked systems" that in modern cars are now "all in one control units."
If you want to change the head unit, try having an adapter made by these guys: http://www.swstereo.com/. I have heard they do good work but I have no experience with them myself.

One of my cars has a heap of bullet connectors for all the wires to the stereo.. its an ugly wiring mess which I will be sorting out hopefully soon.
The other has an ISO connector wired onto the car side of the harness (properly soldered and shrink wrapped, with the wires cable tied together). It then just has a ISO-to-JVC pigtail plugged into the rear of the head unit like this one on ebay.
I'll be wiring some ISO connectors onto my '89 soon and using a similar solution, as it'll make future head unit swaps much easier, plus it neatens up the wiring a *lot*.

Thanks everyone. Yeah I have had used cars in the past that people hacked up the wiring and it's not fun. That's why I always do it the right way. My first 951 was bad. I bought it with no stereo and there was barely any length of wire left to tap into....
Here is what I had to deal with from the PO. Most of this was stuffed under the dash. Still dealing with bad splices in the harness.
Aww man. I feel for ya. Thats worse than I have had to deal with. I did however pick up a '90 TTZ that had quite a bit of old alarm junk in it I had to tear out.
