Aero mirrors removal
I hope this posting can help clarify my own findings when removing any aero mirror bases.
I had noticed a few post on how to remove the mirror base.
I p/u a 8/32 bolt, 9 inches long. (ace hardware)
I lightly sanded the 4 sides of the bolt head to help ensure the spring bolt would butt up to the mirror base bottom. After connecting the bolt to the base, apply a downward force and turn a 90 degree motion.
This process will not take more than 2 minutes for both mirror housings. The sanding of the bolt head took longer. see picture of the install of the bolt head to a metal vice. The second photo will display the spring and bolt which was connected to the mirror and mirror housing.
Next slide will show more details about the mirror housing and the glass mirror.

Glass mirror removal
I had some troubles here:
1st: add tape the the bottom hole of the mirror housing. You will see holes, choose the hole centered to the mirror housing.
2nd: Grab a flash light and a small screw driver
3rd: You will notice a black notch inside the hole. If you do not see the notch, reposition the mirror to the hole.
4th: Begin rotating the notch. Back and forth motion with the screw driver (left and right)
5th: Each notch you rotate, i would apply a light pressure to the mirror on both the 3 O'clock position and 9 O'clock position.
6th: Don't give up, the mirror will finally let go
7th: The mirror will still be wired on the back side (heated lens)
8th: Disconnect and your ready for Paint and or sanding.
See pictures to help support the 8 steps.

I don't know if the aero mirrors are the same as the flag style, but I disassembled my flag mirrors for painting with a 12 mm triple square bit. It won't help after ther fact, but, FWIW....

I have not removed my flags mirrors yet, so it is good info to know. I believe the tools are different for both mirrors types (flags and aero)
I'll let you guys know..... if interested. I plan to paint my aero's with a custom can of paint mixed per my paint code. I hope it turns out OK.
Its all in the prep work mostly....

Sorry, but I've read this thread several times and I cannot seem to get the mirror glass out of the aero housing. Can someone give me a little guidance? I see the small black plastic notch inside the center hole on the bottom of the aero housing and have tried working it with a small screwdriver, but the nothing happens. I'm afraid I am going to disfigure the plastic notch. Help.

Found this here for the removal of the glass for the flag mirror.
It's the same for the aero mirror.

"For newer cars push the bottom of the mirror glass inwards into the mirror housing while looking
through the inspection port on the underside of the mirror housing. (See Figure 1.) If a black plastic
locking ring with four flat serrations is visible through the inspection port, use a small flat screwdriver to
gently lift the ring outwards. Then rotate counter-clockwise out of the locking gate until stop. (Note that
in some cases minor force may be required to rotate the locking ring as dust and road debris may be
lodged in the grooves). Using your fingers, gently remove the mirror glass from the motor assembly
and disconnect mirror heater wires from the glass."

Thanks Bertrand. I read through those additional materials and have applied a little WD40 to the locking ring as that thing is still NOT budging. If It continues to defeat me, I may just take it to my mechanic and let him get the glass out. The last thing I want to do is break my new (used) $500 aero mirrors!

I put together a kit I use to separate mirror body. No vice necessary. It compresses the mirror spring so you can separate the body.
There's a write up somewhere I followed. Maybe on the 928Intl website.
