He checked for pressure on a valve under the jump start terminal. I've read on another thread that parallels shouldn't be a problem. Is he right?
I have seen an external condenser fitted at the rear and it worked [surprisingly] well. However, in your climate you do not need a parallel condenser for the system work well. The problem with a parallel unit is that if the flow path is less resistant then the gas will want to take that flow route preferentially thus a case of 1 parameter in the equation working against the other. I suspect it should help rather than hinder but...?

I would still instruct the shop to fill the system and try it out. You will doubtless have the same dilemma I have in that my [early] GTS chassis has the earlier design for R12. If this is not available in Brunei you will have to run with R134.

If the drier bottle has run R12 you should replace it and maybe the a/c hoses as I did. The system will run on R134 with modern refridgerant oils capable of lubricating both systems.

If when you run the system the compressor is struggling that is another matter and would need to diagnosed appropriately. These systems are difficult to keep sealed and perhaps more so in hot climates. It is warm and humid in Brunei but not hot by and large.

We have to deal with temps in the region of 45C you see about 32C in your summer I seem to remember.

Regards

You can't adjust the idle valve it's done automatically depending on airflow and TPS.

It was idling between 800-900 rpm before he adjusted it. Now its between 400-500.

I suspect the original owner didn't top up his power steering. Before going to the mechanic I looked into the reservoir and there was barely anything in it. I topped it up with dexron III turned the steering wheel, let the atf suck into the system and then top it up according to the dip stick. I added around half a litre but now there's about a fifth left. How much does it take to fill a dry system?
