Same MAF the 5-series BMW has from the same time frame (1995 - 355's and 348's have two MAF's).
Are you sure they aren't mixing in any alpha-N control as well? They probably have much more advanced delta TPS for enrichment also.

They almost certainly are, as it is a fly-by-wire throttle engine. The throttle position is considered for everything.

Catching up on some interesting threads on RL... been crazy bust with the new gig.

So I was reading about the M5 ITBs and the concern that the MAF wouldn't be able to react fast enough. I had the same issue with my SCer setup. Had all kids of crazy tip in. So DR hooked me up with basically an adjustable "Hobbs switch" which is a pressure actuated switch. As soon as I see boost, the switch tells the LH to go to the WOT fuel map. No tip in. So far it has worked extremely well.

I did some digging and there is a vacuum actuated switch too. If you had an ITB setup like on the BMW, you could set the switch to near 0 inHG and have it trigger the WOT map on the LH. I think this would solve the tip in.

There are, of course, better ways to do this (like a different engine management system), but thought I would throw that out there.

All this talk of ITB... Hmmmm.... Might have to start another project one of these days.

Oh and before I forget, nice to see Tuomo hanging out again.

Thanks! I know what it's like to be busy at work, did double shifts (Europe and Americas) for two years. Now, with accumulated vacation time, single Americas markets shift, and time to surf the internet at work there's way more time to actual tuning and "internet engineering."

Andrew, for an N/A ITB setup I would certainly go with the JDS Alpha system. We've been running it on the GT for about two years now, throttle response is terrific and it has been trouble-free. It's an alpha-N system, no MAF, with baro pressure and intake air-temp compensation.

It's on a stock intake for now (except for no MAF), and has been from zero to 10,000 ft and 30 to 110F in various combinations with no hiccups. WOT map is not used, tweaking the LH's transient enrichment is all that was needed.

With boost you need to get MAP into the equation but for NA that is a non-issue.

Cheers,

I was watching Leno's garage episodes yesterday and learned that the new Mustang Boss has a "runner in the box system with velocity stacks" iow ITB's. That came from the Mustang Chief Engineer. It also looks like they have a single MAF on the front of that housing.

So this may be of help to you guys.
