Recommendations - change in tank gas strainer or not?

ok. I am glad I saw this thread since it is going to apply to my project. My 84 Euro is not getting gas to the filter outlet side. I was told that it is probably the in tank strainer. Soooo... removing it sounds like a bad idea. What is the best way to go about fixing my issue? sorry to semi hijack your thread... but the two issues seem tied in.

Or you could just replace the filter first if it is old or of unknown age and see if that helps.
BTW, I used a marking pen to add the date of filter installation to the new filter. I saw this in an earlier thread - sorry I can't remember who posted it - but a great idea.

The hose clamp, or "Jubilee Clip" as we call it this side of the pond,

Great minds....I did the same thing...when I bought mine, the tank was in the trunk, and all the fuel system parts in a box (at least the ones that were not missing), there was no strainer, but just the "hub" (in the box). I noticed that the plastic around the boss had a couple cracks, although it seemed to be tight in the tank. I filled the cracks with epoxy, then hose clamped it. Left it in place for a few months, then inserted the new strainer and tightened, then removed hose clamp.
