Since this has bumped back up, I have an essentially as-new Radian SL65 seat and the proper rear mounting bracket and hardware that I no longer need. I think it got used twice and has been sitting in storage since. Selling for $150 shipped to your door (These things have a steel frame in them and must weigh 25 lbs).

See this thread for pics of the installation. Post #58 contains pics of the factory rear deck mounting point and the bracket for the strap, so you can see whether that '85 is similarly equipped.

Revisit this thread (I think you posted there a long time ago). It looks like the R100 is the successor to the SL65 whcih has worked great for me. I have two in the back of my '84.

A few people had trouble ordering the latch anchors from Kid Safe in Western Australia. But I emailed Sue Wicks, the CEO, who said shipping to the US was not a problem. In either case I would get some sort of anchors for the latch system, if not from Kid Safe, than another vendor. The car already has the mounting holes drilled and tapped under the carpet right behind the middle of the back seat.

I originally used the lap belt through the seat base as an anchor for about a week but was not comfortable with how loosely secured the seat was. The lap belt is too far forward to keep the base of the seat really secure. After installing the latch anchors it is mounted much more solidly and does not move. I suppose optionally you could convert to a rear 3-point belt to help secure the seat. I think the Latch system is only supposed to be used up to 40 lbs so when my girls get over 40 lbs I'll have to install the 3-point in my 84.

Lastly if Paul is redoing the leather, get something to protect the new leather. I used some Eddie Bower seat protectors along with a folded terry cloth bath towel to drape between the seat and the Radian.

Good luck! I LOVE pulling up to drop my girls off at Pre-K in a sea of mindless cattle getting out of their minivans and SUVs because they are apparently a requistite that comes with kids - uh no, they aren't.

I added a thick neoprene pad and some black leather I had Layin around over the foam to protect my new Paul rear seats from the kid seat...

I to use the bubble bum for my 6 year old works great with the 3 point harness in the back.

Driving small children in a 928 is not as safe as a modern tall SUV with side curtain bags, Head injuries from side impacts will really set a child back developmentally. Very dangerous.

With all the knuckle heads texting in their 6000lb SUVs, it's not worth it if you can avoid it IMO. Take the family car.

No, and not preaching Ducman. Just my 2 cents worth.
Their neck muscles aren't developed enough to handle a hit, mass w/ a little speed always wins in collisions. Good luck in your travels.
Where i live people do more texting than driving, been hit twice in 2 months in the past in my now gone 911. Had a very loud exhaust too.

UGH i hate people that do that. when i moved to ohio from new mexico it was like a new world here. EVERYONE talks/texts while driving. makes me miss my ram 2500 diesel.. that was a baby tank.

I can deal with talking on the phone because at least they have their eyes on the road, but texting you better look out.

When i was rear ended (sitting at a stop light) in my old IROC look 911 that i took 6 months building, she jumped out of hew Honda minivan and her thumb was still texting. Swear! Her kids kept saying Mommy you hit Salley! (movie Cars)
I was super nicel because the kids were there, but boy that make you physically ill.

I heard recently if someone hurts someone else while driving, the Police are able and do look into your phone records to see if texting played a part.

If they see you were texting around that time you are in very big trouble

It's never that simple. A friend of a friend just recently had a rollover accident in an SUV due to that tall ground clearance that you say is an advantage. They were clipped from behind by a truck... never even knew what hit them. The whole family was in the SUV... the father and kids sustained minor injuries. The wife did not make it... RIP
