I find that parking far out away from everyone is just a magnet for people - especially with a nice car - to park next to them and maybe even purposely cause damage to the car.
The best place in my point of view is just on and within the fringes of where others are parking. You don't look like you're trying to protect your prized possession as much, and usually you don't have to worry about others parking next to you.
