Default Need help with fuel sending unit

First and foremost I'm having trouble getting the sending unit in my US 1984 model I've pulled the sending unit and cleaned it properly and the float is moving freely on the slide . the negative (copper colored) wire that goes all the way to the stationary piece at the bottom of the inner unit was broken off and have re soldered that back into place and put everything back together but when i first got the car there was a broken wire on the plug which also had to be repaired but when the cap came off the plug all the pins came out at the same time I've included a photo of the pin lay out that i think is correct but can anyone confirm that for me ? Right now the fuel hand wont come up past reserve but if i do a little bridgeing one the wires at the tank i can get a reading but I know the 3/4 tank read it gives me isn't right as I know for a fact there is only approximately 1/4 tank in the car (guesstimate i just put 6 gallons in today and drove a mile or so to the house ) any help anyone could give would be appreciated its really embarrassing to run out of gas in a porsche!
