Smile Time for S/C to go..

After several years of battling oil blowby and expensive oil consumption, Its time for the S/C to come off. I will certainly miss the extra power but the aggravation is gotten too much. There is a lot more than 285hp to be made without the pitfalls of the 4.7 motor. So this weekend my project is to remove the system and reinstall most of the stock parts. Luckily I boxed them all up for future reference.
The new plan is to do the Renegade conversion over the next year and go N/A. The LT1 engine will make a nice dependable 400hp.

I just like this car to much to part with it. I drive it often and far. So I see this as a win/win situation. Time for the next chapter in the 928 saga to begin.

That's too bad. What engine do you have, US or Euro and what year? I'm asking bc I see a SC in my future Also, have you documented here on RL what you've done in terms of oil consumption/steps taken to alleviate?

Don't do it!

The look and sound of the Porsche V8 is part of liking the car and by far outweighs 400 GM HP.

I've been making 400rwhp with a stock US 4.5 without any blow-by issues for many years now, that was before going with the EFI from an 85 EuroS.

It's all in the tuning. I wish more people understood that (unless you break / blow up something, then all bets are off).

Years ago we did a demostration on a dyno with a 500rwhp S4. Just by making small changes on a load holding brake dyno under load, we were able to enduce and totally eliminate blow-by.

We've also done multiple test with boosted / non boosted 928's measuring the air volume and pressure coming out of the breather system. A properly running and tuned supercharged 928 had the same as a bone stock 928.

How much power did you make with your supercharger to the wheels? I hope a lot more than 285whp?

lol Not in my book it doesn`t !! I`m thinking that nice 4.7 I have needs to be a new coffee table .

The Stage 1 setup from 928MS only makes about 285hp at the wheels on a 16V car. Stock engine is rated at 234hp at the crank. It only produces an extra 100hp at the wheels at the rated 5/6 pds boost.

What supercharger setup do you have? Is it a kit, or a DIY system?

928 Motorsports Stage1, with the modified BD11 blower. Billet impeller, vents,ect...

For what it is, it works well. Just not on an engine with built in crankcase pressure/ oiling issues.

Default Look forward to the thread

Been a long time since a well documented renegade thread.

Used to be a "Patrick" in Tx that had one and was an active email list participant. Actually I think he moved to TN. ANyway.....way more than a decade ago now...

I would say go LSX or at least LS in lieu of LT...but everyone will have something to say from peanut gallery.

Good luck!....and btw, I think the shop with the thread about fabricating the Corvette transaxle mentioned engine transplant kits too, might do to check out a compare/contrast.

LT1s are 300 or less hp. How are you planning on pulling another 100, without boosting it?

Don't do, sorry I know, no vote requested.

Sorry to hear about your blow by. Sounds like good part is it has been discussed here. These guys can help fix it one way or another .

Not happy about you reminding me to read all this blow by/tuning stuff that I have been putting off .

Regards,

ps. FWIW, look CL-- SF
