Default Broken the bonnet release handle

Poor me! Whist trying to open the hood I have broken the bonnet release of my S4/MY88; it looks like I have actually broken just the plastic housing and not the mechanism, nor the cable. Can anyone tell me if and where I can find detailed instructions how to dismantle the whole mechanism and replace the plastic housing part, which I understand is quite a cheap spare part, to buy? I did a search iin the forum but could not find anything specific. IS it possible to open the bonnet otherwise if the release mechanism is broken?

You can also just pull way back on the now loose handle and the latch will usually open

It is an easy fix. Also, what Jim said is ususally the case; but if that doesn't work, the hood can be popped from underneath - just reach up with a screwdriver from below and press on the release mechanism and it'll open right up. You should be able to see it with a flashlight from underneath.
As to the housing that broke, take it apart and it will be obvious how it goes together. Just 3 screws hold it on. The other peice snaps onto the fixed plate attached to the inside of the car behind the carpet. The parts are very inexpensive. It is a common fail point.

I broke mine, and subsequently softened the spring up at the latch to prevent recurrence, after i rebuilt it. I have seen a complete interior mechanism on ebay, out of germany.

Being repaired by a specialized body-repair garage; apparently it was the plastic housing broken; the cover piece is OK and so the handle itself and the cable. I cannot believe that such an exclusive and expensive car had such cheap and fragile parts to perform critical functions obviously subject to frequent use and abuse.

......., whilst I agree these components are,nt the strongest, they are perfectly adequate.., if maintained regularly, mine are the originals 32 years old.
