Default Best option for replacement air ducts

Something in this setup falls into the NQR category. The venturi tubes seem shorter than they should be, there is some crushing in the corrugated section under the bar, and they are a larger diameter than the air box connection, so they don't seal. Both have the ports for the belt vents. PET is not much help as it does not show the pieces all put together. I came across another pic where the narrow part of the venturi was directly under the bar, which is why I thought something might be screwy, but just saw a pic of an 88 which had this exact setup. The part number on the airbox lid is 928 110 016 36, which doesn't match PET, but does match 928 intl (?). Bottom line: What's wrong here and what is the consensus best replacement option for the ductsif I can't get/don't want originals?

I think they are installed backwards. I will have to check mine when I get home.
NEVER MIND. I am wrong.

It's possible your air box top has been replaced. Not all air box top inlets are the same size. I've been searching for a top for my 86.5 and have run across a couple sizes, but not the size I want.

That's what I was afraid of. Any ideas on the ducts?

What's the inside diameter of your tubes where they connect to the air box top?

3" brake duct from Jegs or Summit.

Measure that air filter top and the ducts at the radiator. Maybe your car isn't 3" on both ends.

The tubes are 3.5 inches and the air box connections are a little under 2.75 inches

Is it possible that your tubes are from a pre-85 car? I often see the earlier tubes listed on eBay as fitting 85-86, but they don't. They look similar, but do not fit.

Sounds like you have the correct tubes and a replacement air box top. My air box top and tubes are both a bit over 3". Unfortunately for me, my air box top has a corner broken off. I fitted the top off my '80 and the inlets on it were 2.75 as well. It fits the box but not the tubes. I can get the part number off the correct top if it would help. I haven't been able to find another though.

I wonder if we could run the 2.75" inlets and tubes without a serious performance impact. There are many other super knowledgeable folks around here that could say for sure.

I taped the ends of my pipes with silicon tape for a good seal.

According to PET the part number for the air cleaner top for an 85/86 is 928 110 230 02.

I sold an 86 parts car to Benton a while back, maybe he still has the air box.
