Default Armrest Revelation!

After over 15 years of 928 ownership I just discovered last week that leaving the driver door compartment cover in the open position puts the arm rest at the perfect comfort location for resting your left arm.

Anyone else discover this or am I just slow?

I was told some time ago that that is what they were designed for - that configuration.

Duh!

Full disclosure: Just learned about it a couple years ago myself.

Just be careful... those mounting supports are pretty fragile.

David: Something about you calling Randy "Son" (indirectly) brings a tear to my eye.

I discovered that too during a long Texas trip. My only concern is how strong are the hinges when the armrest is flipped open.

On a more serious note...I have used them like this for 20+ years and never had a problem with the armrest hinges......and FWIW I don't have wimpy lightweight arms...LOL

Cheers,

Dave

I've encountered broken armrest hinges. The owner is about 6'5" and 250 lbs.

FWIW the armrest works pretty well as a rest support,
but its not really good for putting full body weight on .

First thing to do is make sure all 4 screws are tight that anchor the brackets to the armrest housing.

Then give the hinges a spray of silicone spray they will open and close easily

The problem is when some one uses them for support when getting out of the car.

Yep! I've used them as "extended" armrests for years also. Just don't put all your weight on them!

I showed my wife that "trick" the last time we took a trip with the car. It was one of those "NICE" moments.
