My apologies if this has already been posted. Stumbled across it today and it seems nice with low mileage.

The car is rather original (rubstrips and spoilers, eh), and has a great story and history.
Would LOVE to get to Sharktoberfest one of these years...

When did they start putting side markers on the Euros? That one in Alaska doesn't have them yet, but I was under the impression that they started doing that right after the press cars.

0400-0500 is fairly good quess but there could be market specific differencees. Having just front and rear turn signals leaves blind spot on side when someone looking for them is close enough. Factory basically had to do something to fill up legal requirements in different countries. In some markets not having them would have been ok but it made sense to use them in all ROW cars and prevent need to do three different fender styles.

A few more pics would be nice... Not to mention some of the interior and engine. Is it an auto? I doubt it since so few auto's were built in that first year.
Also, why does it have spoilers? I didn't think they were even an option till '79 or even '80 w/ the Euro S cars... I must have missed something.

I remember reading somewhere that Porsche during the time they started producing the 928 with spoilers would invite owners of older 928 cars to get them installed on their cars. I can't remember if this was a safety thing Porsche was worried about or a way to make a little money.

S spoilers were never an option in ROW market 4.5L cars and they only became available in '80 MY when S was introduced. For US market they were part of the Competition group package in '81-82 and that was only way to get them from factory. Some dealers might have installed them to used cars but it wasn't any factory aproved thing to do.

The added spoilers were a quick way to make a 78 look like an 86. Some gray market specialist used car lots in Germany which sold cars for export to the US realized that in the pre internet days if it had spoilers many thought it WAS a Euro 300 HP 928S and more valuable.

Erkka,
Perhaps we have talked about this before, but your thoughts and mine match up exactly so when I was how this was worded and of course the pic of the car I thought something was odd about it. So they may well have been dealer or factory added AFTER the fact then...
Thanks much!

it has them because some wanted to turn it into S lookalike. When '80 MY ROW S and '81 MY US Competition group were introduced non spoiler 4.5L cars be came instantly old fashion. To make them more appealing some people installed spoilers. Usually this wasn't done as factory would have done it and its possible to see car is non S version from small details like rear side window.
