Default Replacing a seal

Hi Guys

Have taken off the alternator to replace my power steering lines, all good, however on the plastic cover that fits over the alternator there is a felt seal?

I have ordered a new one Sealing ring – 928 603 135 03 but can someone suggest what i can use to stick this back on.

Cheers in advance

John

Nothing. It is held in place by the four screws.

The alternator sealing ring that goes between the plastic shroud and the alternator is a neoprene gasket. It comes with adhesive on one side and a peel-off wax paper. Just clean the shroud surface with a rag and solvent, peel off the paper and stick the gasket on.

Just get the proper thickness closed cell foam tape.

The hard part will be making sure it is "under hood" suitable.

Did this in a hurry while inspecting connections and taking readings, seems to be fine. The original seal was down to the adhesive layer still stuck to the alternator casing, with a little fuzz remaining in a few spots.

I figure the foam tape will be cooled by the air going into the alternator... No plans at this point to go back in for inspection anytime soon.

I wouldn't expect heat to be an issue but it might turn to "goo" if it comes in contact with petroleum based liquids.
