Default Warning Light

Never during a cold start, but once in about 4 warm starts I get a warning light come on. I don't see an associated dash light that should describe the exact cause, because a few of my dash warning lights may not be working.

For a couple months this has been happening, a push of the reset and it goes away. And then I drive somewhere else jump back in and there isn't no warning light so haven't sweated too much.

However, a week ago it came on and the reset didn't turn it off, this made me think to the manual that warned if it blinks it is a major deal and don't drive it. This isn't blinking warning light, always been sold, but thought I would ask.

Thanks for any ideas or suggestions.

Default Buzzing Sound

Very recently in the last week or two, I have been getting this faint buzzing sound, sounds like a warning of some sort, coming from behind the center console area.

My friend told me it could be a safety belt thing, but my belt has been on and it comes on while I'm driving sometimes. Very weird.

Any ideas on this one ?

How do the brakes feel? Does your Brake Pressure warning light work?

On my '83 U.S. I have the ! and Brake Pressure warning lights going off all the time. It was diagnosed as needing a M/C and I bought new switches too. Car stops fine but evidently there is a tiny loss of pressure somewhere. Currently getting fixed.

hmmm, mine could probably use a bleed. Let me ask you, does your warning light ever go on when you start the car cold ?? mine never does. It is only after I have driven the car and even then its random. It never comes on while I am driving the car, it is only right after re-starting...

ah ok, if I reset the warnings by disconnecting battery, the ! and Brake Pressure lights will eventually come on again while I am driving.

Which of your dash warning lights do and don't work? Could narrow it down a bit from there, as I don't think the "!" should come on without a coinciding dash warning light. Initial thought is from a level sender where the fluid is at a borderline level, or an intermittant false reading from a sticky sender (coolant, oil level, washer fluid, brake fluid), or a flakey bulb contact/ground triggering a bulb out warning (does your brake light warning light up when you first start the car and then go out when you tap the brakes?).

The buzzer may be a clue - I'm not sure if Euro's had the belt buzzer (mine doesn't). If not, maybe one was added for federalization and that could be shorting out. I have the timed seatbelt light to the right of the AC button that comes on on when you start the car, and then goes out after a few seconds, but that doesn't trip the "!" light.

i don't think the buzzer noise and the warning light are related. I accidentally hit reply instead of new topic on that one.

The brake light does come on until you hit the brakes, i think that is normal. The low battery light works and might trigger it by mistake as that thing spazzes out sometimes on startup, but battery is rock solid and grounds are in good shape now. I think the only other working dash sensor is a temp. but that isn't coming on after startup and car runs cool.

Have to check the washer fluid lever, there are some missing hoses leading up to the nozzles so never bothered with that. The rear fog light never worked since buying it, maybe bulb. But I think the manual is referring to the other lights which do work.

If it's at all helpful, here is what my 84 Euro guage cluster looks like with the key on and parking lights on. I think all my warning lights work. Your 83 should look similar when all bulbs are working.

Note that the small trapezoidal bars are also warning lights. They show a problem with the gauge where they are located.

I think there was a discussion of a buzzing sound like you describe a few months ago. Try a search?

the buzzing your hearing may be a vacuum pod that is leaking to test this plug off the line that supplies vacuum to the HVAC system.
Also check the blue one way valve at the booster as these sometimes will make a buzzing noise.
If its not a leaking vacuum pod or valve then one of the relays under the console may be buzzing so remove the driver side console cover and see what you find.

Also there may be a resettable miles counter for the EGR system this may be under the right side passenger seat cover along the rocker next to the right seat bottom.
Also inspect the CE panel for a buzzing relay
