New WS Gap Filler Strips
I was inspired this last spring to try to develop some kind of filler strips for the gap that the 928s all have on each side of the windshield between the glass and the trim strip. There was a thread on this forum about these gaps that I think was brought foreward from some time in the past about how some of the members here were dealing with the gaps.
So, I worked up some forms and had some plastic vacu-formed over them to fashion something that can be pushed into the gaps and held there by friction or basically spring pressure.
I introduced these at OCIC 12 sort of as my "show special" and they went over pretty well. I installed about a dozen sets there and found that what I had hand trimmed needed to be trimmed slightly more to fit some of the cars. So I devised a method of trimming these with a little more consistency and have sent a few sets that I donated to the Hedrick Family Auction recently. So far no negative reports are received.
I am offering these now to the 928 community at $45 per set. The S&H will be $7.50 to the U.S., $10.00 to Canada and $12.50 to other countries. The other countries may become more expensive if I am required to ship by Priority Mail. Otherwise, these are light enough and small enough to be sent by regular first class mail, which is what I will be using to keep the cost down.
You can purchase a set, or multiple sets, by paypal to my email address:
jfeather@bresnan.net
I think that will automatically include your shipping address, but if you want you can send that seperately. Or, you can send me a check and your shipping address and I will get them out to you. Send that to:

These Filler Strips will come with some written instructions, so I wont go into that here, but you can tell a lot with the pictures that follow:
(Note: the gaps on the GTSs and possibly some of the GTs have already been filled, so don't order these if you don't need them.)

The surface look must be different.

i agree. about the surface.
i love the idea, but it looks out of place with the shiny textured plastic against the smooth flat trim.. almost looks like a piece of foam was stuffed in there.
any chance of getting them a different texture? if not i guess i can paint them flat black.

Perhaps Jerry could experiment on some scraps with different grits of sanding to make the surface matte. Getting good adhesion with paint might be difficult.

One thing I have noticed is that in these pictures the shiny looking pebble texture of this ABS plastic appears more shiny than in real life. I suppose, though, that one could dull the finish with steel wool or paint these flat black with some kind of plastic or vinyl paint in a rattle can from the auto paint store; or both in order to enhance the adhesiion of the paint.
I would leave the adjustment of the finish up to the final user.
For what it is worth, I put a set of these into one of the several 928s on display at OCIC 12 as a sort of treasure hunt game on Saturday of the convention, and no one could find them. I think that tends to suggest that they really don't stand out that much, or at least not as much as they seem to in my pictures.

Jerry had secretly installed these on a car at OCIC and told us that they were somewhere. No one found them! They are 100% super stealthy. Jerry installed them on Kurt Auzins car which was right next to mine. Funny thing was we got to talking about how the 91+ cars have a factory gasket to fill the gap. If only we had looked at Kurt's car to compare, we would have seen it.

Mailing is not as expensive as I thought it was going to be, so I am revising my S&H schedule as follows:
To the U.S. $7.50
To Canada $10.00
To rest of the world, If first class mail is available, $12.50.
I just learned the Priority Mail to Dubai would be just over $30.00, and past experience tells me that it will be just about the same to most other places where there are 928s. Also, I learned that first class mail will be just about as fast as Priority Mail.

As an additioinal thought, I can ship two sets for just about the same price as one, in the same package. I am not so sure about three or more sets, however. The wooden frame I made to ship with these to keep them from being bent double may not accomodate more than two sets. I might try three if anyone is so inclined, but I think I would ship four sets in two packages. Keep that in mind for combined shipping. Also, the weight of four sets may take these out of the first class category.

I have a set..the texture doesnt show off as much as that photo does..that's VERY at the right angle to the sun, and so forth.
The texture is not required as a 'friction' to keep them in plate..its just what his molding setup does Im guessing, that is all.

I prefer the GTS rubber seals myself, as they are more satin in appearance and I suspect their material will transmit even less noise. That said, I saw Jerry's product at the OCIC and must say they're nicely made, fit well, and at $45/set are about 1/4 the cost of a pair of GTS rubber seals.
As a side note on the GTS rubber cost - I was surprised to find they were MUCH more expensive than the related metal trim that they seal - like twice as much.

I bought a set and they were hand fit and installed by the master himself. Every product Jerry produces is of the highest quality material, for fit, finish, value. My car is black, and you can't see them unless your looking for them. Money well spent!
