One issue I had run into twice in the past is with buyers of these Gap Filler Strips who found that the side windshield trim on their earlier cars had been replaced with trim from or made for the GTS. That trim has a flange on the underside which prevents my Gap Filler Strips from being installed. It might be wise before you order these Strips to check your side trim first to be sure it is the same as the original ones, and not those made for the GTS.
Thanks for the orders I have just received for these Strips. The domestic ones have been shipped. I'll send the ones to AU tomorrow.

It turns out the one of the recent buyers of my Gap Filler Strips found that he has the later GTS WS side trim strips. I told him that if he is not inclined to try to grind the interfering flange off I would do it for him if he sends the side trim to me.
I'll make the same offer to anyone else who finds that they have the later incorrect WS side trim and would like to have my Gap Fillers. If you remove the side trim and send it to me I will grind the flange off and return the side trim with the new Gap Fillers.
You may find that you have the wrong GTS side trim if perhaps you have had your WS changed and they replaced the side trim with some from the Dealer; most likely because they did not know how to get them off and destroyed them trying.

Got the gap filler strips on Saturday and installed yesterday. A couple observations.
1. I used a small flat blade screwdriver and cleaned out the channel beneath the trim pieces. This is important in ensuring a good fit.
2. I test fit each side several times and couldnt get the strip to go under the trim piece the entire length. It would fit at top and bottom but the middle section would spring back out. I ended up trimming about an 1/8 inch off the wider of the two channels and the strips fit under the slight downward angle of the trim piece with a nice satisfying click.
After trimming them they are snug and I'm sure they will stay put. Here are pics of driver and passenger side.

Thanks to Jerry for a nice product!

Is there a trick to getting them off properly? The guy who replaced my windshield seemed to expect to tear them up getting them off, and in fact he did...hence my new ones.

If you take the edge of something that will not scuff the paint or the trim and simply start at the bottom and push from outboard to inward on the outer edge of the trim, working your way up, they will slide off the edge they are on very easily.

Awesome, I will give that a shot! Thanks...

I used an o-ring tool and inserted it under bottom end of gap filler strip and pulled out parallel to windshield, the bottom of the gap filler strip came out easily and then you can pull the remainder of the strip out.

I was actually referring to the windshield trim. I have the gap filler strips, but can't get them in due to the later-model windshield trim that was installed with my windshield. There is a small lip under there that extends just far enough to foil the gap-filler strip installation.

While I was bumping a couple of my previous product threads I guess I could have bumped this one also. I have these Gap Filler Strips in stock and can ship whenever anyone would like. They are still $45 for a pair and the S&H to domestic locations is still $7.50. If interested you can paypal to my email address:

I bumped this thread about a year ago, and now seems like a good time to do it again, particularly with the recent reports of another kind of strip made of rubber that is breaking the windshields, probably because they are not tapered like the gap is that needs to be filled.
My Strips are made of ABS plastic and are formed to fit the gap very closely, but without excessive pressure when installed. I have had no reports of my Gap Filler Strips breaking any windshield.

I'm still not clear -- what is the function of this product? Is it merely aesthetic or is this about wind noise? If the latter, how much difference does it make? The product consists of two pieces L&R just for the front window, is that right? BTW does this fit all years? (Mine's an '83).

I made these almost solely for their aesthetic appeal. However, in the process of development and later installations and reports from users, I hav learned that there is an advantage relating to wind noise.
What I learned in installing several of these myself is that almost all of the 928s have a short piece of weather strip glued into the upper corners of the gap. The weather strip is about 4 inches long and is about 3/16 by 3/8 cross section. My theory is that these pieces of weather strip were put in by the factory when they found that the rain gutter port from off the SW and into the rain gutter channel over the top of the doors probably whistled when driving.
That piece of weather strip must be removed from the upper corners before installing my Gap Filler Strips. Then, my gap filler strips appears to be accomplishing the same purpose as the weather strips. In addition, any wind noise attributed the the overall gap appears to be reduced.
These Gap Filler strips are intended for 928 from 78 to about 89, since I think in 90 the Factory started putting something else in the gaps and then with the GTS started with the rubber strips that are formed to fit the tapered gaps, and including a small dart of rubber that fits through the rain gutter opening at the top corners.
