Mine arrived today took longer to open the great packaging than installation. I had my son install them for me. Awesome!

I purchased these fillers at OCIC. I thought they looked great and fit very nice. Unfortunately by the time I got back to AZ, the pass side was gone and there was a crack in the windshield coming out from under the drivers side. That being said, I thing a small dab of silicone under them at installation would be a benefit.

Thanks, Kevin, for your report. Thanks also for the additional information by PM. I suppose it would have been helpful if you had actually seen the gap filler on the right go when it did.

At this point the best I can guess is that of those few sets I took to OCIC for the initial introduction that I had hand trimmed were trimmed a little fat on the top flange or edge. In fact the first one I tried to put into Erik B's car for the secret modification would fit into place, but when I turned loose of it it would snap right out. I still don't know why, but I had a similar problem with a couple others and I think Sean R has had a similar issue with one of those early hand trimmed ones that he got at OCIC.

In any case, before I made this most recent announcement I have devised the tooling to trim these a little narrower on both the top and bottom flanges and hope that that has cured whatever the problem is. The ones at OCIC that didn't fit well to start also required a tiny bit of additional hand trimming before they would work; and that is why I am trimming them all a little bit narrower now.

I'll have a replacement for you for the missing one at SF 12 as we discussed.

Jerry, received the filler's packaged well all in one piece.

But I'm having trouble installing them. I don't know if this issue is something you've run into before. Stay with me as I try to explain it.

As far as I can tell, this is the original windshield. I do not have any windshield glue bulging out on either side, the channels are free and clear with one exception. The outer black trim surrounding the windshield has on the underside of it, a 4mm deep "lip" that sits ~4mm "in" from the edge that you'd run your finger under and along.

This "lip"

Showing the depth at which this "lip" sits under the black trim.

It's not possible to force the strips under this lip. I tried. And stopped because the force was getting so great I was afraid of cracking the glass. What would your suggestion? I was thinking of trimming the "top" strip of the gap fillers to sit on the "front" side of this lip, but I don't know if the 4mm that it leaves on the fillers is enough to hold them in place without some sort of adhesive.

Thoughts?

For Jeremy Smith. Based on my somewhat limited exposure to the trim on the sides of the windshield, I think what you have in fact is trim that was intended for the 91 and later Gt and GTS cars but without the rubber trim the factory attached to that little flange under the side outer trim. I pulled one of my GTS trim pieces off and I too was surprised to find that little flange extending down into the rubber trim that is the factories solution to the gap. I cannot imaging how your car might have ended up with the GTS outer trim but without the rubber gap filler, but that is what I think you have.

I think your solution is to find a nice pair of the original side trim pieces like the ones your car came with and substitute them out. The other solution is to trim the little flange off of the trim pieces you have so that the Jerry Feather Gap Fillers will work.

That is a very interesting issue you have brought up, but with cars as old as these it is hard to predict just what kind of mix and match might have taken place with any one of them.

I don't think trying to cut the top flange off one of my gap filler will be very successful, but I am not too sure about that. That may be the other way to solve your problem. Maybe I can take one of my seconds and trim it quite a bit more and send it for you to try. Let me know what you think.

Yes, Myles. I got the payment on the 18th and shipped the strips about the day after. They are first class air mail so should be there in a few days. Let me know if you dont't get them by the end of this week, or early next week.

Why not just get the rubber that's supposed to be on it? Then you can send me the piece you don't need.

Not a bad idea, Gator Bait, but if you read the whole thread you will see that the factory solution is about four times the cost of the Jerry Feather Gap Fillers. The interesting question is, however, whether the extra factory cost includes the metal trim with the rubber.

Correct. Unless you have the GTS trim, which also came on some late GTs, you have to change out the trim in addition to installing the rubber seals themselves. The rubber seals won't work with the earlier trim pieces.

I upgraded to GTS trim/seals prior to Jerry introducing his product. For those who would prefer the factory route, here are the part numbers:
  • 928 559 519 00 70C GTS Rubber Side Seal L
  • 928 559 520 00 70C GTS Rubber Side Seal R
  • 928 559 105 07 70K Windshield Trim L
  • 928 559 106 07 70K Windshield Trim R

I would caution, be prepared to open your wallet. The above set me back approx $250, the majority of that being the rubber seals. The metal trim pieces were cheap by comparison. Thus, Jerry's gap fillers are certainly an attractive alternative on a cost and functionality basis.

Hmm
I was assuming the rubber would be the cheaper component.

My trimmed ones seem to fly out at high way speeds. I've had to re-tuck my drivers side one on several occasions due to this. I'm going to pull them out since I noticed no difference in noise quality at all.
