looks like a nice car for 4K ,
one you may actually be able to drive every day with minimal extras,
though a PPI wouldnt be a bad thing

Looks decent for the price..... I do think an automatic L Jet 928 IS the most reliable out there....

then I chose wisely ...

I am often curious why the 83-84 MY get dissed so much. comments how they are slow. as compared to a good S4, yea. but I dont see the same dissing on MY older than 83.

80-84 are red-headed stepchildren of this community. Something to do with the lack of rear ashtrays.

the rear end shape of the 928 and 928S from 78 - 86.5 is what originally drew me to this car. In '87, at the age of 15, when the S4 came out I was sort of bummed because they changed it.

928 enthusiasts should just buy the body style they most appreciate and stop calling some years red headed step children. Better performance/more HP is great and all, but on public roads there is only so much one can do anyway.

Agreed. The old body rear end is better in my opinion than S4 but that is without the S spoilers.

I checked out the car today. Her husband (a German man) bought the car in 2003 and spent a couple of thousand dollars fixing everything mechanical. I saw the receipts from Strong Porsche in SLC. It seems like everything was taken care of mechanically. But this is 8-9 years ago. Porsche was his dream car and after a year of ownership he suddenly passed away. She has kept the car ever since. She is no rush to sell and is determined to only sell to someone that has a passion for these cars. It's nice to see someone willing to turn down offers from a potential bad owner. The restoration process was halted after his death. So there are a few cosmetic issues that could be taken care of; cracked windshield, cracked dash, paint scratches, small dent in bumper, etc.. I also felt like it steered much easier to the right than left. Electrics need fixing: speedo, odometer, power window, mirrors, sun roof don't work. Other than those things it looks to be in good condition. Always stored during winter. I decided to pass on it. But a gentlemen showed up with his black 84. He was interested in buying it for his son in his mid 20s. I never got his name but I will contact the seller and try to get him to sign up on rennlist.

david-alford

+100

I had looked at a rough 87, and almost bought an 85 w/SC, but got distracted by my wife's reaction reverberating through the core of the earth triggering the earthquake in China.

finally convinced her I was going to get a shark. read/researched more, and this forum was my main source. GREAT COMMUNITY, even if it does not respect the 84/older.

what I realized is I wanted a DD to replace my DE/track preped 911 that had become a harsh ride on the street.

realized from reading threads I thought I had the experience/skills for an 83-84 Ljet, wanted the 4 sp auto, and these older MY fit my limited budget. and I would NEVER have bought a shark if I did not think I could do most/all of the work. since I still need $$ for the constant maintenance, tires, brakes, fluids, etc for my 911 track car. and since getting into DE/track, I really dont drive hard/fast on the street any more. just not worth the risk.

had my 928 4 yrs, did a lot of refresh, and running great. even though I do not intend to turn it into a track car, will probably take to one DE event just to get to drive is hard and see what it can do.

now just saving pennies for that SC that will give me the performance to not be ashamed in the presence of S4s. or at least stock S4s.

PS. with the new headers and 3" exhaust, at least my shark sounds fast.
