LOL.. Talk about short attention spans. I hope (if) you got your 928 running. The last thread had a lot of replies and informative posts, however I did not see a 'thank you' from you. I doubt many of the posters will be helping you in the future.

As Martin said "already in the works" and looking awesome.
Martin forgot to mention that he runs (maybe owns) a company specializing in LED's.
Already has some cool stuff on his car.

Martin is really bringing some cool inovation to the 928 World.

The rear tail lights are an issue as they may not be available anymore shortly.
Less than 15 of each at Porsche and no longer available from wholesale.

Most of the stuff I manufacture is in the gov sector and I am a wholesaler not retailer. So to answer that no I don't have a sight but there are some photos on here of a few things I have thrown together for my 928 but not many as I have had the car for maybe 30 days now.

If you look close in the 1st pic the light bars are ones that we had made for a large contract for a military apc. Then on the other pages are some 7watt backup replacements and a 7watt plate frame also a light I did after picking up a led guage upgrade I wasn't impressed with at all.

Roger,
Do you mean the lenses?
If not, what actually goes wrong with the assemblies? I can't imagine that the contacts should burn out under normal use (unless there is something different about these?), and last year when I bought bulbs they were a dime a dozen.

Thank you

Hi everyone, I'm new to rennlist. I recently joined as a user, but hope to upgrade as a full member sooner or later. I'm 16, I live in Philadelphia,PA. my dad has a red 1986 928S, which he acquired because he doesn't trust me to learn how to drive in his truck. a lot of the maintainance has fallen to me to do, so that is why I joined rennlist.

anyway, after a brief introduction, here is what I have to say that is relevant to this thread: I recall a while back that peoples were using small IC's with java to make a group of led's light up in multiple patterns and put it in an altoids boxes. I don't think it would be too difficult to do the same with the lights on a 928, by just plugging in the existing signal lights to the IC and having it light up corresponding LED's on a panel.

Wow, a 16 year old with a clue. How about that? Lemme guess you're an electrical wiz? I envy you.

not quite electrical wiz. I'm more acquainted with computer programming (not much though, I know a little bit, but am taking JAVA in school this year), and lesser mechanicals (airsoft gearboxes, not nearly as complicated as a v8). my dad is really good with electrical engineering, he did make sure I know what all the basic components do and how to use a multimeter and soldering iron. I realized though that we would need to run wires up front to power the IC's, because I dont think that we would be able to let them just run off the existing lights because it is soo intermittent.

another thing that it would need is somesort of power supply and surge protection that will not shut off if it surges, but only limit the power surge, because IC's normally run off 5v (car's normal output is like 11 or 12 according to the volt meter on the dash, IDK how reliable it is) and will fry with more than 15v. but the car probably has such a power supply for the ECU, or the ECU is made with more resilliant components, which we could do for the lights circuit.

I really like to see this initiative from the younger generation and their thought process. Now it's just a matter of learning which can be achieved from reading, listening to others, or simply trying things out.

1st clue... Google Ohm's law and contemplate. I wonder who can figure this out first?

When talking about simple matters like IC's and LED's one is not going to get into too much trouble. If you can make it work in an Altoids box, you can make it work in a car.

Don't be afraid to experiment, but please figure out how to make it work before attempting to adapt it to vehicle brake lighting system... Oh, and don't mess with the ECU either... that could get expensive, but it is the right train of thought!
