The centers are too large so I'll need shims.

Denny. Thanks for all of the great pics. This is great. I may go with spacers like yours. I know the engineers might cringe a bit by moving the wheel center out an inch, but I doubt it will hurt anything much and I cannot imagine I'd ever feel any difference. But it LOOKS much better.

^^^ spacers were a factory option fitted to my 82, and my GTS has the standard 38mm spacers. The factory regarded them as acceptable in engineering terms, so I think you can too ...

^^^^^^^ But you really want them to be hub-centric. The ones above with studs are not and should have "hub-centric inserts" used with them. The ones above without studs are hub-centric.

Hi,

I have H&R Trak+ spacers http://www.trakplus.com/ on my 86 Strosek. Because it is a wide body, I have 40mm (about 1.5" front) and 90mm (about 3.5") on the back. They are high quality, and they use the stock lugs to be bolted on to the hub, and then the spacer itself has its own lugs/studs that the wheel bolts on to. My steering is fine, and the alignment maintains the correct specifications. I hope that helps.

Default So tell me about installing them

I assume maybe a very slight coat of anti-sieze where the aluminum spacer contacts steel hub. What torque and should I use any coating on the threads? What are the torque values for both sets of lugs? Thanks All!

First, you want the "bolt on" style spacers with studs rather than the "slip on" spacers which just fit over the studs. As I recall the factory spacers are 21mm.

The "slip on" style requires the installation of longer wheel studs. This requires pulling the rear hubs to press out the short studs and press in the longer ones. This means destroying the rear wheel bearings which means new rear wheel bearings which require a special tool to dismantle/install - not a cheap or trivial undertaking. I think it took Bill Ball and me about 6 hours the do the rear wheel bearings on my '89 (bad wheel bearing - not for spacers - but same amount of work).
