That is an awesome deal on the real parts.

As time marches on, look for EPA to do a squeeze around the country to get us to be fully compliant else relegated to parade driving only.

I talked to a customer today who had an aftermarket cat installed years ago but at his recent smog test he was failed as the cat was not listed as an approved cat for his year 928. The rest of the country may not have it this hard but we here in Ca sure do.

The bigger drag is that he is now on the Ca smog **** list.

The guy who does my smog is a car guy and a former 928 owner. He looks on the engine bay, asks if anything has changed since last time, does the roll-and-sniff, takes my money. He's never looked under the car for cats, much less to see if they are period-correct for the car.

Mark-

Put me on the instant-buy list for when there's a similar deal on the cats for my later car. So far so good on the originals, but no telling what might happen in the future.

+1- I must say that if I had an 81-84 that was going to be driven for the forseable future, I'd have one of these on the shelf. All these aftermarket cats are cheap pieces of crap, built to a price point but often fail rapidly, vs. a factory cat which will often go 20+ years and still pass CA smog (Both of mine do...

Anyone priced factory smog equipment for '69-72 American muscle recently? All the guys that have S4 cats that want to throw them away after their X-pipe install, I'll happily pay the shipping plus $25 for your trouble to have them properly packed and sent to me. Functioning factory cats are only going to get more valuable, IMO.

I will do that but I don't see them in the pipeline just yet.
I ordered these from Germany about 6 months ago. Aparently they used a row boat to send them.

Mine gets the test-only-station flag on it every time for the last half-dozen. Supposedly because there are so many 928's falling off the compliance curve.

The only hickup so far has been the 928 gas cap and the lack of a test fixture for it. With the seal in the filler neck, testing the cap doesn't buy a whole lot. Otherwise if the car looks like a factory package no issues so far.

The old very brown is on the gross polluter list due to a failed test in 06 , has been test only since then. I had the cat discussion with a test only guy who was insisting that any cat needed to be original or have the CA approved number. He was willing to overlook the headers IF I could fit a factory cat.....If you go on line you will see that most aftermarket cat sellers will not ship none Ca approved cats to California. The fines and penalties are just too high !
