The insurance question is a big one because even a minor hit which damages your custom add on panels will be impossible to repair or at least very, very expensive. Where would you find a replacement fender ????? So you might want some high agreed value IF you can get it for a customized car.

But I do think you could sell it for about $10k without too much issue. North of that and it becomes less clear.
His car is a 5 speed.

I think it looks very cool and unique.
My issue would be replacement or repair.
I could not find a windshield with an antenna for my 85 928S US.
Imagine a headlight motor failing!
Where would you begin to find the correct part?
Or someone backing into it!

Widebody and 944 headlight conversions like this one are valued based on what someone will pay. On the day you bought it, it was worth what you paid for it. Perhaps slightly less to the seller, slightly more to you. If it had been priced $9500 higher, would you still have bought it? More important, at least for insurance purposes, is what it would cost to replace it if lost/damaged.

Keep shopping for another one or two, and document your findings so you have some back-up for your value estimation. There are appraisers who specialize in collector and custom car valuation who may be able to help you with that.

---

All that said, I'm rather conservative when it comes to custom body kits and the like. The original frog headlights are iconic to the car, so putting in 944 or RX-7 style flap covers does nothing or less for me. For fender flares, I've played with various iterations of plastic body parts over the years with not great longer-term results. I know FRP and many other plastics have improved over the years, but add-on pieces still seem to crack at joints with metal especially when faired in with polyester filler (bondo). Similarly, FRP at least seems to develop ripples and surface checking as it ages, so keeping a perfect reflection is virtually impossible longer term. Further, plastic parts seem to chip more easily than metal. Remember that this is as much a matter of personal taste as anything else. If it's something you like, then a flared and flippered-headlight car is worth more than a stock piece in similar condition.

Wait until you see a picture from the back and how these wide quarters end. After, I saw it, I thought Carl's widebody kit was a masterpiece.

I don't want it or its insurance in my garage though.

I like the original lights and not too much bling, but I'm biased.

Thanks to those who replied, even to those who made disparaging comments. I know everyone has different tastes in cars, that's why there are people who collect different types and that's what makes the hobby so appealing. Find what you like and go for it. I just laugh when people make comments but never show a photo of their car, or worse, don't even have one. If you were in a bar and Kim Kardashian invited you back to her hotel room and offered you a million dollars to do it, I'm SURE you'd say, "No thanks fat @$$, you're nasty". But then, maybe you would...again, your choice.

-I was looking to get info so I would know how much to set my insurance at the correct price. I'll take your advice and see about "agreed value" with the insurance company. That makes a lot of sense because it will take more than a stock fender to get it back into shape if there is an accident. I plan on holding on to it and not flipping it anytime soon. I have a receipt book, but I don't dare start adding up, especially if my wife is around!

-And AO, I agree with you about the front spoiler and hood intakes. The spoiler is just tacked on and not molded in how I'd like it to be. And the damn intakes look like pig snouts! They're functional but look like crap. I might try to do NACA ducts and find a better spoiler. I'm going to see what a stock 928 front spoiler looks like on it.

And Glenn, your car looks great as it is. Are those the stock calipers and rotors? I like the way they fill out the rims.

That is a sweet car. One of the reasons I love the 928 are the headlights. I agree it takes something away to convert them to the more common flip up lights.

Yeah, when it comes to the value of cars, it doesn't matter how rare a car is, but how much other people want it. Even when all the 1970's Pintos have been crushed, except for one, there still need to be people who want it and desire it to make it valuable. Some people like widebody 928's. Some people hate them. To me, the problem with stock 928's, is that they aren't really super-rare. There are still a lot of them out there. So when selling one, if your price is too high, the buyers can just wait a few months, and find another one to buy. But with widebody cars, they are rare. So if someone is looking for one, and you are selling, they may be willing to pay a premium. How much of a premium? Probably not that much. Maybe a couple thousand more... But not double.
