Default Porken, did you take pics when you rebuilt your throttle body

Hey Ken,
Man, I am getting to refiresh my top end refresh. This time I am going to do a little more/better painting (can't afford PC) and I want to pull the throttle body and rebuild it. You mentioned in a previous thread that it took a while for you to get all the springs correct. Man, I hope you took some pictures or can explain how you found the exact place. I rebuilt mine but failed to notice the o-rings in several places. Do you know if anyone had done a write up on doing the TB rebuild? I looked forever for a closeup picture of the TB linkage and had no luck. I mean I looked for days with no love.

One more question, what should my fuel pressure be set at for best performance/gas milage? I am going to replace the 87 unit with the adjustable one that I think is much better. I just need to know what it should be set at. This is an 86.5 with 24lb Ford four hole injectors.

Also, do you still have anything writen up on how you did your flush mount headlights? I thought I found a thread where you were going to offer a kit, did that ever happen? Would you be willing to share the how to and maybe some Pics? I am willing to pay whats fair?

You know I am a long term faithful customer LOL... How is that for kissing up?

Hope you can help,
Frank

Frank,

What term did you use for your search?

Mine is under 'Throttle'

Here's the link and it's got lots of pics of the springs and assembly that should help.

Here's one of them:

Thank you so much Mike. Man I think I tried just about everything. I will certainlly give this a careful going over.

This time around, all I am doing is fixing the stuff I didn't know about the first time around.

Mike, did you happen to find an o-ring under the place where you adjust the idle? On mine, I can see some fluid there while adjusting the odle.

Thanks,

Sorry no pics. Mike has you covered, though.

I don't recommend an AFPR. The S4 FPR keeps the fuel pressure where the LH chip expects it, which will give the best performance and efficiency. AFPRs are a pain. I hate using them. If need be, you can add a WOTpot to adjust the WOT fueling digitally, but this should only be needed with a big, all non-stock exhaust system.

I'm working on V4.0 S300s chips right now (no release date as of yet). They have better overall fueling for extra smoothness and response, but it probably won't change your mileage. About the only thing that might help there is using the big gap NGK plugs.

I haven't done anything with the headlights in a long time. I had them in my non-ABS '85, but '86.5s require a whole different set of brackets, as the ABS pump is in the way (ABS optional '85, standard '86). I still have chrome headlight rings on my '86.5 track car.

Thanks Ken, that will save me some time. I know I have a vac leak and it seems to be in the TB. Mike's thread was great. I will be pulling the intake one more time to do some painting and get to the bottom of the vac leak. I will leave the 87 fpr alone.

The version 4 of the chips sound great. Let us know when they are ready and I will send PayPal.

Thanks,
You're not going to believe this, but the idle set screw is the only thing I didn't remove on the TB! (I know, I know).

So I don't know if there's an O-ring in there or not. I would do it this way:

Turn your set screw down one half turn at a time, counting as you go so you can tell how far back it needs to be set from all the way in, then remove it and clean it all out.

Thanks Mike, will do. I think I even got the linkage correct from the pictures but I know I didn't replace those o-rings. The car runs pretty darn good but a little rich. Matt loaned me a blinker and I will be setting the co2 when I get her back from the shop. I am really just diasssembling the intake to re-do the tubes. I polished them, but after just a few months they look like ****.
