Default Weird Ground

For some reason I have a main ground wire (red, lol) running from a bolt on the starter to the car. Not sure why this was done, headers blocking something ? Anyway, where it terminates on the car is correct but shouldn't it be coming from the block, does anyone know the EXACT point it connects from stock.

I have a new bosch starter going in soon and not sure this ground wire should be hooked up like it was before.

thanks

Not stock, no wire to that bolt last time i looked under mine. Grounding from that bolt would normally go to the bell housing -> engine block -> large ground cord (I have headers and this cord runs fine, should be on passenger side just above the oil pan near the rear) -> the frame -> battery. Seems a little redundant to add that unless his primary engine ground was wearing out?

Wrong color wire for ground. Looks like a kluge to mask a poor engine ground lead. The original is uninsulated copper, between the frame and the side of the engine block on the passenger (right) side. the uninsulated wire is used because heat from the exhaust would otherwise melt insulation where the cable passes under. Not saying that what you have won't do the job, just saying that it isn't what was there when the car was new.

fully aware that wire is not stock, was hoping someone had a pic or knew EXACTLY where theirs comes off the block...

^^^ IIRC, that's it. You could cut the insulation off yours and route it correctly or get a new cable.

I have moved the ground wire to the correct location (thanks kelanel for the pic). Getting a 12 inch 4 gauge braided bonding strap sent to me. Item at the bottom of this webpage, don't include http://

custombatterycables.com/braided.htm

My question is, the cable will be laying on a header, will the heat effect the quality of the ground and/or life of the material, should i wrap it with something to shield it where it touches ?

Thanks
