Default Pleasure driving in the rain...

Drove my 91 S4 to a meeting at a hotel about 3 miles from home. Left it in the uncovered lot. I knew it was going to rain but the forecast changed suddenly here on Long Island, NY.

As we are sitting in day 3 of our 11 hour meetings (plus dinner) I hear the rain come and what sounds like hail...

I open the page for my classic car insurance claims page, just in case...

Went back outside on break, after the rain-no hail-phew!

Drove home on very slick roads in a light rain. Have to clean my windows better-got the jumpy wipers (double-springs).

I never once engaged PSD. Stopping distances were excellent. Car did not feel like a rear wheel drive car. The last 2 RWD cars I drove in the rain was my dad's old G35 (circa 2005?) and before that a hideous Mercury Cougar rental 2 door in the late 90's. Neither was too great in the wet.

Here I am in a V8, RWD car and it was amazing!

Plus the rain hid all of my cars paint flaws--looked stunning!

No leaks inside or rain smell inside. Water on top of the rain guard-where it belongs-under the hood. Water in the outside edges of the door but nothing past the plate. No water in carpets, under carpets, etc. Dry as bone.

So yeah-it was a pleasure driving in the rain. Was I more cautious?? Sure-but just like my AWD Subaru or FWD Honda Civic Hybrid.

I tried that this morning Michael and all I did was slide everywhere. You are right though, the rain hid the dents.

Mine has LSD and driving in rain can be scary sometimes. But I think it has to do more with the kind of tries I have on the back. Limited options on the kind of tire since I have the 8 inch wide manhole covers on the back and usually when you do find the correct size they are old new stock, meaning old rubber...

Um-yeah it is just a car-one I've had for just a few months and only the 2nd time in the rain on roads loaded with oil.

After reading of Herman K. spinning out at 70 mph and another owner on a dry road exiting, I need to know my cars' limits.

Just amazed at how good a 21+ year old car with 143,000 miles can perform and how far ahead of its time it was.

Turbo twist 18"s on the back-265, so what is that 10 inches on rear with Kumho Exctas.

A 928 has been my daily driver for 19 years. If you want to learn the car's limits - autocross it. The car is still faster than I am.

Namasgt:

Bridgestone Potenza RE11s are now available in 245/45/16s - one of the best high performance tires on the market, but there's a lot of pent up demand (stock size for the 930), so they may be back ordered - but, you can order them through Costco - or Tire Rack.

Yesterday I was out playing in the rain also. I had to go out to Stony Brook in the afternoon. I had driven to manhattan in the morning, beautiful drive not too much traffic. When I left for Stony Brook it had just started raining, which changed very quickly to a diluge. Had very slow going traffic till exit 35. Cleared up after that and I could stretch her legs. As I got past exit 35 on the LIE the weather also cleared up.
The only problem I encountered was that the battery charging gauge would drop just below 12 at idle with the AC, lights and wipers on. As soon as I would be off idle it would creep up to 13. When the car would start moving it would start registering nearly 14.
On the way back it was the same. As soon as I left Stony Brook it started raining. The HOV lane was great got me very close the the tunnel quickly, dropped my colleague at the office and headed home doing a good clip.
As I was pulling into the garage I noticed I had done over 200 miles in the rain and the car performed excellent. I just love my cars!!

I was in a down pour here in South Carolina, and the 88 s4 was awesome, Had lots of standing water. One big issue, fog, my AC is broke, and that was not fun...

Definitely. I still am also learning what may need adjustment/fixing/tightening up!

Let me know any time you'll be on Long Island. My office is not too far from Stonybrook-will always grab lunch!

Drive in the rain? Uh not me, my wipers work when THEY want to work, not when I want them to work. LOL!
