It's about damn time!
Well, as you all can see, I've been lurking around the forum for quite some time now, waiting for the opportune moment to strike! It finally arrived, and after years of ogling, dreaming, and nagging my wife (Lilly), I am now the proud new owner of ThomO's 82' 928.
Man what a trip! My flight into Denver was delayed, so we didn't arrive until roughly 9pm. Many thanks to Thom for picking Lilly and I up at the airport. After the car-buying festivities, we grabbed some dinner at a local fast-food joint and I snapped a few pictures.
Of course, I wasn't about to just park it in some motel parking lot in Denver, so I pointed the wheel east and took it out onto the open road. It was a joy to drive, and the miles just melted off. Unfortunately, my stamina isn't infinite, so after crossing into Nebraska and watching the clock tick over from 3am to 4am when we changed time zones, we decided to find a hotel. Long story short, 6 hotels, 0 vacancies, and much cursing later, we came to the conclusion that all the riders going to Sturgis had beat us to the punch. There was nothing for it but to sleep in the 928 at a rest stop, somewhere in rural Nebraska.
Our alarm went off at 6:00, and we hit the road again. 20 hours after our plane took off, we were back home...

Congrats and welcome. That's a sweet looking car. There is nothing better than an immediate post-purchase road trip to learn just what a comfortable mile-eater the 928 is. And a sweet perfomer to boot.

Ah, yes, the bonding ride home. I fell totally in love 13 years ago at 120MPH in rural Oregon in the middle of that long ride home.
Congrats on the catch. it looks exceptionally pristine.

Thom certainly did do a great job. I took her out again for another ride this afternoon, and, of course, to show her off! Made a nice little loop down some back roads and hopped on the highway for the return trip. Beautiful little drive, and would have been even better if there had been a little more rain this summer.
It was certainly entertaining to hear people talk about how good the car look considering it's 30 years old. Already, my gearhead friends are asking what my plans are for fiddling around under the hood. I guess I'll have to start surfing the big three websites.
