Default Suspension and Alignment

Took the car to Braman Porsche for ride height and alignment. The found the driver side upper control arm bad. Gonna run about $4,000 to replace that, four new tires, set the ride height, change the oil, and full alignment. Get the car back 5/3/14.

I agree. That does seem high. The labor on the A-arm will be substantial at a dealer. I once got a rather high dealer quote for shock replacement, and I concluded either they really were not too interested in my business, or had to pad the estimate to account for on the job learning. Last trip to a dealer for me.
I hope you get a satisfactory result wherever you take your car.
Best wishes,
Dave

Go with Marks rebuilt units, they are the only ones I'll install. You are getting way over charged for that.

I know it's a lot,but I'm desperate to get the alignment done and I can't replace the arm in the parking lot of my apartment building. IIRC the arm was ~1900 installed. No way a dealer is going to install a rebuilt part either. I'm going to have to keep paying through the nose for work until I get back into a house.

Oh, they did give me a loaner for the week, so that's something.

Can't really blame the $tealership I guess... FWIW, I'm certain Craigslist is crawling with private garages you can rent if you need a place to wrench. i am in a townhouse in jacksonville and rent a storage unit with Electric for wrenching on my 3 cars. Just food for thought...

Good Luck!

Well, the guys at Braman Porsche Palm Beach seemed excited to see a 928 in decent shape. They went over it stem to stern grattis. Gave me a list of items they found and I told them what I wanted done. Got the price up front to the nickel and the car is transformed.
Anyway
Upper Control Arm + Ride Height + Alignment ~$2350
New shoes ~$1400
Oil Change ~$265

I've been thinking for quite a while I had a parasitic battery drain that I couldn't track down. It turned out to be a bad connection where the positive cable connects to the terminal end. It was one of those clamp on terminals that was too small for the cable. I cleaned and tinned the cable and replaced the terminal with a bigger one. Starts a lot better. I let it sit for two weeks and it still spins right up.
