During my first Timing belt replacement I finding over half my time is being spent cleaning off oil gunk! It appears both camshaft seals and main seal were bad.
Looking in WSM, it appears I've got to remove cam covers to replace the camshaft seals. Or is there a short cut?
I am getting to the point where I'm getting a little nervous having it torn down so far. And I've read enough about those two piece cover bolts to make me a little worried about breaking one or two off!
And I'm sure that if I do have to remove them, I'll end up resetting/replacing some other parts! Getting a little depressing!
My garage is filling up with bags of nuts and bolts and car parts. The only thing I didn't do to make my life easier was to have the new water pump on hand to transfer the bolts one by one... Still, even with all my labeled baggies, I dread starting the reassembly.
The WSM just doesn't do it for me.. think I'm dyslexic.
