Default central electric removal?

I tried search but was unable to find out what is involved in totally removing the ce panel. Looks like thePO tied the two blue wires for the charging exciter ckt together in front of the board to get alternator to work. I need to look behind the panel to see why he did that. Thanks!

Basically, its a "just do it" project.

Remove upper and lower wood.
Undo battery neg cable / wrap it / prevent contact with body.
Remove two 10 mm bolts connecting CE grounds to body.
Remove all lower plugs. They are ID'd / don't worry about order.
Remove tow 10 mm bolts at top of CE.
Panel should come out.

Had to do this earlier this year due to a bad relay shorting my ground line to death
It's pretty straight forward if yours is like mine.

Edit: realized i missed landseer's last post having instructions and im all against repeating what someone else said (much better written than mine :P). the only thing i might add is that the 3 heavy gauge red wires in the center of the lower plugs might need to be labeled (mine werent) as the location might matter.

Best of luck,
Jonathan

Agreed, don't let it intimidate you. I removed mine completely for a refresh about two weeks ago. It's a no brainer, really.

depending on the year, there is also a red slide lever that has to be slid one way to unlock various harnesses from the panel as well.

Good point. 85 and up. CE power distribution harness plugs on those are new-style. They lock with a slider, plus each plug location has a fragile plastic retaining clip. Still a no brainer, but it becomes a two-hander.

Agreed,
I did manage to break a few of these along the way as they can be a bit brittle. If they become a problem, I will secure them with some industrial grade velcro strips from the connectors to the panels. Holds bull tight.

I would just add
DISCONNECT THE BATTERY
before you start anything mentioned above.

Many thanks to every one on the quick replys. Guess I'll take a deep breath and dive right in after my oil change. Amsoil 20/50. By the way, I've been useing this oil for two years and the old oil is still nice and clean as well as the drain plug looks as clean as a whistle. You guys are the best!

I once owned a woody back in the day. Does that count?

You will also need to unbolt the CE ground wire ring terminals from the ground point above CE - do this after the rest of the removal as a last step - don't foget to replace these first on reassembly
