GUYS......this is much talk about NOTHING...... Amsoil Z rod 10-30 is a great oil....BUT NOT FOR A 928.....its FAR TOO LIGHT unless you live in the great white north.....

Full disclosure...I am an amsoil dealer and run it exclusively in my race 928.... does it have lots of ZDDP...YES for a good reason....

On my RACE 928.....I have never seen an oil test under around 1200ppm....most are MUCH higher even after 6+ hours on track.....I pull samples, send them in and determine when to change the oil based off the results of the test....(hint a $25 test is much cheaper than a $120 oil change)....

Seriously what is the point of this arm chair debate......really who cares what this or that study says about X or Y oil.....want to know what I care about.......WHO races a 928 that survives on track with multiple drivers (including Kibort) and continues to run and run..... I am SO confident in my race 928 that I welcome ANY 928 racer to drive it.........................and unlike some I DO let others drive my race 928's....... There is no "magic" oil......you got a driver who can break an anvil in a sandbox.....guess what he drove my car.....for HOURS AND HOURS.....guess what...it still runs....

Unlike some on this forum....I don't believe in theory, calculations-etc......you know what I believe in...RESULTS......mine speak for themselves.....don't believe me.....ask anyone who drove my cars......Kibort, Anderson, Sean, Jeff & more.....

Dyno queen's don't impress me.....want to know what impresses me....someone who can beat me on track.......THEN we switch cars.....you drive mine, I drive yours.....does it survive?? Or are you the only one that can have success with that individual car..... I am not a hammer on cars...give me a redline and I will respect it....but I am 100% sure that myself, Sean, Anderson or others can DESTROY 32V 928 engines running the stock S4 oiling setup.....why do I say this....because I have done it....many times over.... 5 comes to mind.....

a single dyno pull under ideal scenario that throws down a massive number...ya whatever....I see that all the time at the track....why do I pass a 640whp corvette in my LEMONS 198whp automatic.....because his overheats and gets stupid on a 70F day....

Okay stepping off my soapbox.....one last comment....someone likes to debate with Doc Brown....but his car doesn't run (for long)....vs Doc's cars that do.. nuff said

I just bought a case of Torco TR-1 20W-50 off Amazon (Greg's rec.). I'll change it this weekend or week at Pete's (El Greco). Curious to see how a year of Mobil 1 with limited mileage looks. The dipstick is always clean and the oil always looks good. Called them, 1500-1600 ppm Zinc. Ditto Phosphorous and Moly added. Nice guys to boot and everything from the containers to the box is made in America.

$114 is expensive, no? For 12 quarts?

Yes-probably overkill-but no additive required. 7.5 liters needed. Burn rate of 1.5 l/1000 km maximum (according to technical specs) and so far, knock wood-doesn't seem to be burning oil. I'll have 4.5 liters left for a year (hopefully won't need) and then can add 3 more as needed for the next change.

Small price for insurance. Sure it's $50 for 10 liters of Mobil 1 15W50, but I'm moving to warmer climates so will go higher.

And say it with so many ellipses.

Shouting "do what I do" is pointless as other people are not you and do not have your cars. How they are driven is another issue and the most critical to engine life. You're missing all that in your Kibortesque polemic.

Since running 20 oils in a car and evaluating the results over a satisfactory period is not going to happen, looking at scientific results is very valuable.

I re-opened this oil thread (at great peril!) to say that the Valvoline VR1 oil looks to have good ZDDP levels for our engines and the conventional oil can be had at many retail shops for about $6/qt. It comes in a lot of weights including 20w50 and w50 and did well in the scientific tests. This is a good choice for street 928s.

Let me add it would also be a good choice for breaking in a 928 engine as you don't want to use a synthetic then.

I agree that the formula of VR1 will work well in 928's............... Its sad that DOT made "car" oil remove so much ZDDP to save catalytic convertors.....so that forced guys like us buy diesel-motorcycle or "Racing" oil to get a proper level of ZDDP......

$6 a quart is a good price...... it costs me (dealer price) over $120 per oil change (not counting filter).....but nobody said "Racing" is cheap...

The "lemons" 928 out of SLC runs a diesel oil.......high in ZDDP and cheap....I can't remember which brand it is.....it might be VR1 or similar....they have over 4 races on their engine.....still runs!!!

Just changed from Brad Penn to Valvoline VR1. Seems thicker? Says 1300-1400 ppm zinc.......I am reading this is enough........
