89 S4 no start issue - need advice

Just as final follow up on this thread. It was the external fuel pump. Total failure. Although you could hear it hum, there was no flow whatsoever. The first replacement I had expected on Saturday somehow got lost enroute. The next place said they could get one in overnight, but when it showed up it was clearly not the right part. Anyway, a fellow Rennlister came to the rescue once again. Thanks for the loaner Fred. I reassembled her and she fired right up.

Hey, that's really, really good news. But don't forget, that pump is also 23 years old and could suffer a stroke at any time. Glad I could help.
