Default a few good laps at Thunderhill...

My "No-shift O' matic" 1979 racer did pretty good on Friday.....I managed to break my personal best lap time over 8 times.....pretty good considering I had a great gear selection of 4th 4th or 4th....

Here is 3 laps under my previous personal best......conditions were good but hot, around 90F.....calm wind...

Congratulations Brian!

This sounds like a torque advantage....

debate to ensue shortly I am sure.

torque advantage is EVERYTHING..... :>) Might as well put my brute 257 ftlbs to work....bummer its at 4250 vs say 3000 which would be nice given my current "no shift-o-matic" dilemma........I could probably drop another second with that extra torque...

what is the torque (HP) difference at 3000rpm vs 4000rpm. probably not a lot, but yes, having more HP at 3000rpm with your condition, is better than not having the HP there. (and there is not much there anyway)

cool video!

Thanks Coach!!! My theoritical best lap was a 2:05.22..... 1.3 under my previous best...its safe to say a working transmission could drop another 2 seconds easy....2:03's for this car is pretty good given its zero aero....

Given my newly discovered busted sway bar-LSD issues I am going to pull the front shocks and have them tested-rebuilt....clearly I need more control in the front end for high G corners....

Your running the slicks so you are in good shape. i dont know how much the aero helps at these speeds, but i ran my black car to a 2:01 with no aero, and old crummy toyos. with the slicks and aero down to 1:59.0. im thinking the tires were most of it. certainly for me, another second or two or so for real slicks too.
whats the HP again, arent you in the 250rwhp range? i seemed to remember 2:04 being a prettty good time for that kind of hp and 2:01s with the 320rwhp , all on "ok" DOT slicks . (hoosiers of the day, being about 1 second faster than the toyos)

Right now I'm at 2719lbs (no driver) and 243whp.....not exactly powerful....so 2:04's (with a working trans) is pretty good.....same as Scott's best at the same weight and an extra 50whp....

I am SURE I can get another 100lbs out of the car easy....maybe as much as 120lbs...

The slicks do count for a lot......but I did run 2:06.5 on slicks in the Estate at only 215whp....
