Because like most detailed tasks, patience is required, and most people lack patience. Especially ghetto car stereo shops getting paid by the job rather than by the hour.

If all it really needs is a full re-paint Dean Fuller is person that should buy it. That car would be in my garage except I cannot do my own body or paint work.

Not to mention he can recover the seats.

This actually sounds like a great deal to me.

I THINK it would be road worthy...can not guarantee. I would check tension on the flex plate BEFORE I left town with it. There is a nice car under all the grit, dirt, rigs, bad paint, electrical issues...some one will need a lot of money and time and knowledge to make it nice again.

Go for it. Just remember there is no such thing as a CHEAP Porsche. If this is your first go with a 928 ...I would really think hard before I let price alone do it for me. Just my opinion.

It would be a better $$$ move to find a cleaner 1990 for $12,000 than this one at $5000. Again my opinion.

$5000 for the car.
$4000 for a CHEAP full repaint
$2500 Parts I SAW needed replacing
$3000 for interior fixes ( front seats, dash and pod )
plus all your time...

adds up.

dzaprev, there are some questions to consider before buying...

Do you want a perfect car? Or would you be happy with a slightly rough daily driver that would be reliable and a blast to drive? Thousands of dollars difference.

Can you/Do you want to do your own work? Or will you need/want to have a shop do much of it? Thousands of dollars difference.

Things like good tires on stock wheels versus new high-dollar wheels and tires; decent original cut and polished paint versus cheap repaint versus show-quality repaint; repaired, softened, dyed seats versus good used seats versus new upholstery; etc., etc. will add up to many thousands of dollars.

I can do all work my self...except for paint . beat friend has body shop and does great work for me at really great prices. If anyone in Chicago area would need work done he be the guy. Have plenty of Lotus and Porsche pics he painted . I have a 1983 928 that isnt fast enough ....selling this weekend hopefully. Car is in pretty good shape . Just did fuel lines , a/c , headlight relay and really was all labor not much in parts. I have 911 but really like 928 handling. I looking at flights and called guy . little nervous wondering what shape body is in not seeing it in person.

If you do fly out and drive back, you may want to plan a route that uses forum members' homes as waypoints... just in case.
