Default Instrument Pod error messages

Hi all,

For a Canadian 1989 928GT, does anyone know what the first message below means?

https://rennlist.com/forums/images/attach/jpg.gif

This occurs immediately after starting and is replaced after about 10 seconds by the standard one below, which cancels with no problem and no repeat.

Sorry for the lousy quality, but I only had 10 seconds!! The text is "TYP-NO. 08 in the LH area and 19,05 / 1988 in the centre box.
This gets replaced by the standard "Check Coolant Lev." warning after the short delay.

The car shows no obvious driveability problems. I don't know if it is associated, but the battery is getting old and sinks down to 12.5v pretty quickly after stopping. However, I am more interested in where I can trace a list of the error messages. My Owner's Manual does not mention them and I haven't come across them in the Workshop Manuals.

Cheers, Ian

This thread describes a very similar problem, only difference is Typ 04 instead of your Typ 08.

It means your battery is getting tired. The dip in voltage when cranking is deep enough to cause the dash display computer to reset. Replace the battery, new ground cable at the same time if yours is original, you'll be good to go for another few years.

Hi both,

thanks. I will change the battery this weekend.

So two different messages for a tired battery. Do you have a source for the meaning of these messages?

Cheers, Ian

I think I remember reading that these are not error codes, but software / firmware revision codes. Someone will correct me if I'm wrong.

Check coolant level is a regular error message (priority II), it is in the owners manual. Maybe your coolant level is low

The other one as said is not a error message but a consequence of low voltage to the instrument board.
