In the case of this one, the engine has a slim chance of being saved. Usually, it is better to buy a replacement engine. IMO, was there any presence of coolant in the oil? Those engines were considered 'porous'.
Not all the cases had the porosity issue, that was (I believe) mostly confined to the early Boxster production runs. IMS failure is much more common, but if the engine has some mileage on it, it's not likely that either.

Going to be interesting to see what the issue is with the engine on this one.

Imo000, GREAT buy. Dang. Looking foward to finding out what your problem is. I think Raby's website will be your friend while looking for cause of failure.

Congrats Imre. I hope you find that the problem is just something simple but for $5k, you did well regardless. I plan on moving to a 996 cabrio soon as well. Well, as soon as my 928 projects are finished, and that might never happen. Enjoy it my friend

How do you put a 928 engine in that hole in the back of that VW Bug?

I don't think it will fit. I do have a spare early 32V sitting on a dolley.
