Sharks In Hell - August 4, 2012

Hi Everyone. I'm a prospective 928 S4/GT owner in SE MI. I'm currently on the hunt for a good clean 87-91 5-speed car. Does anyone who's attending have a manual trans that would be willing to allow a test drive? I've been looking for a while, but have not found any manual cars for sale locally. I've driven a couple autos and loved the handling and the rest of the car, but I'd really like to have the opportunity to drive a manual 928 before I make the commitment to travel to buy one.
Also, anyone have a line on any cars for sale? The pickings are pretty slim on here, Craigs List, Autotrader & ebay.

Sorry for the thread hijack.

Thanks. I'll take you up on that ride. I know it's a hard sell letting someone you've never met drive your car. I figured that would probably be an issue with most people. I've been driving a manual since my first car in high school 20 years ago and I'd never abuse someone else's car or clutch. I also wouldn't expect someone to just toss me the keys having never met me before either.

Is that S6 a manual? If I recall correctly that was the only transmission available with that engine.
I've been known to let other people drive my 928. The only problem is I'm experiencing a bit of clutch slip if you get heavy on the throttle, so I'm not sure it would be a good example for comparison. It's the original clutch (26 years/100k+ miles) and really needs replacing, but I've been procrastinating for longer than I care to admit.

Ok I'm in, the wife gave me the green light. But I just can't see myself driving the boring 401 on the way down. I'm thinking of doing a long route like this, at least the upstate NY and PA portion would be nice. 401 on the way back though.
If there is still floor room let me know, if not I will bring a tent.

Despite its boring nature, I'd take the 401. If you do decide to take the above route, watch your speed on the Ohio Turnpike. They are brutal! Looking forward to seeing you!

The Ohio Turnpike between Cleveland and Toledo is almost as boring as the 401. If you do decide to take the southern route I'd recommend jumping onto Rt 2 starting around Elyria. It takes you along Lake Erie most of the way and across Sandusky Bay, meeting back up with I-75 in Oregon, OH. The last 30 miles or so is 2 lane, but its 55mph most of the way. And there are no tolls!

That's quite the detour, but in looking at your route, I would turn right at route "666" in the Allegheny forest since you're already going to Hell. Looks twistier, better, "funner!"
