Default Trivial problems

Just 3 trivial problems with my '90 S4.
I've replaced the rubber boot that seals the fuel filler to the bodywork. There's a plastic tube overflow that seems to have no visible means of support. I can't believe it just hangs there. What does it attach to?
Water leaks into the passenger footwell. Is this a simple seal replacement job or do I have to remove the whole blower motor unit?
I have to replace the coolant level sensor. Can this be done without removing the overflow tank?
Any suggestions gratefully accepted.

In my limited experience the overflow tube ends up under the rear bumper cover and just hangs there. IIRC there are some fasteners that hold it there.
If water is coming into the footwell, have you cleaned the drain holes where the blower motor is located? This usually gets clogged with leaves and does not let water drain properly. Secondly have you cleaned the AC drain? This is on the firewall passenger side and looks like rubber hanging out.
Hope that helps.

Thanks for the suggestions.
I can't see any fasteners anywhere.
Can you tell me where I'll find the drain holes. Do I have to dismantle anything to get access?

The drain is an oval hole, covered by a rubber flap, and is located in the firewall roughly behind the right valve cover. Reachable from the top with some difficulty, a little easier to reach up from the bottom.

Searching will find several threads on replacing the coolant level sensor, including discussion of the second senor in the system, located in the hose just forward of the coolant reservoir.

Wally, you appear to be the oracle of all things 928 (you've solved most of my awkward problems in the past) so, what can you advise on the fuel filler overflow tube? There seems to be nothing in the vicinity to attach it to.

Congratulations on having a shark with only 3 problems!

I am envious!

Item 1, plastic tube overflow: I have no idea but according to PET, if you are talking about #6 drain bush, it doesn't appear to be supported by anything other than #7 grommet.

Item 2, Water leaks into the passenger footwell: I have now idea but I will say, FIX IT, you DO NOT want WATER getting on the CE PANEL!

Item 3, coolant level sensor: I have no idea. PET is unclear on relative positioning. If you can see it, you can probably replace it. Otherwise, it may be inside the fender and may or may not come out without at least lowering the tank.

Sorry I couldn't be of REAL help but I'm sure someone will give you useful advise.

Actually, the pics are quite useful.
What's a drain bush? I have a heavy, 18 inch plastic tube attached. Perhaps it isn't original, something the PO improvised. Imagine I'll have to order a drain bush from Porsche.
Yeah, the sensor is partially under the fender and before trying to change it I hoped someone would tell me a simple way of doing it without it removing all the skin from my knuckles.
Sorry to disappoint you but these are only the TRIVIAL problems. In the last few weeks the AC has stopped working, the automatic transmission has started acting up and the tailgate won't close properly.

The drain line off the fuel filler grommet on my MY 90 is zip tied to the rear bumper cover brace. As others have said, don't let the leaking into the passenger foot well go on as it will damage the CE (central electrics) panel causing much havoc and $$$ to repair. I don't think you can change the coolant level sensor in the expansion tank with the tank in place. I did mine when I replaced the coolant tank so no first hand experience trying to do the job in situ.

Thanks Mike. I've in fact resorted to a zip tie for the drain line. It's just that I'd imagined something a little more sophisticated from Porsche.
I've even fathomed out what the drain bush is. It's a metal sleeve inside the rubber grommet's drain tube to allow it to be clamped.
All very trivial really!!!

Here's the way it was secured from the factory; you are correct in assuming better than a zip tie. Probably gets tossed when the fuel pump cover plate gets removed for service I would guess. Have Tom at 928Int send you the correct clamp or fab your own.

Brilliant! A picture is worth a thousand words! Thanks for the clarity. I wondered why the tube was inexplicably flat at the end. I phoned Porsche spares and they insisted that the clamp and tube don't exist. Examination of depami's contribution (PET) seems to support this.
Bit of a mystery!
The drain on the firewall still eludes me. I've removed the air filter but can't see an oval flap. Guess I'll have to get underneath for a better view. A picture of this would be most appreciated. Incidentally, the car is a RHD, in case this makes a difference.
