Default Custom Spark Plug Wires

has anyone made their own wire set? doing this Coil on plug set on for my hybrid is making me think. i could use a set of stock LS wires, but i like the look of the porsche wire boot on the plug. i noticed you can by the boot separate, but how does it crimp on? an one have a picture of that end bare?

i have made a few sets of MSD wires over the years and was thinking of doing the same thing here.

I've made the wires to connect to Ford EDIS coil packs myself. Very easy: Buy a big length of spark plug wire, 8 self tapping wood screws with 'blind' piece (piece of screw without thread right underneath the head). Make sure the diameter of this blind piece is bigger than the thread inside the Porsche spark plug boot. I believe it's M4. Cut off the head and tap M4 on the blind piece of the screw. Put two nuts on the M4 thread and counter lock them. Now you can screw in the self tapping part of the screw into your spark plug wire. When it's fully in, only the part with the M4 thread sticks out of the end of the wire. Now you remove the two nuts, and screw the Porsche Boot on. Voila, only 7 more to go

Sorry, I forgot to make pictures

I replaced the wires in the set from my '85 way back when. I had to buy a 100 foot roll to get 7mm solid core wire. I got Accel silicone wire for about $100 for the roll, IIRC.

The ends are a little cap with a threaded post sticking out. I was working in Germany that summer and found them stocked at a Bosch auto store. I imagine you can get them somewhere here, but I have no idea what they're called. To install them, you strip a short length of the wire and fold it back around the insulation. Then put the cap over that end and crimp it. The wires then screw into the end pieces.

Actually, after a bit of searching, here they are. These guys also sell the Beru wire ($165 for 82 feet).

Edit: And they even have the proper crimping pliers! Only $325. :-o

Actually that's more expensive - $1.20/each instead of $.70/each. But, if you only need 20, instead of a 100, it's certainly a better idea.

On a 928, I think you're going to need 20... each end of each cylinder wire (16), plus each end of each coil wire (4).

Maybe only 18 on some OB's....

since I'm doing the LS2 coil ends, i will only need 8. doing CNP (coin near plug). wire only needs to be 5 inches.

There is a spark plug wire crimper with three different crimping heads on eBay for about $77 which I suspect will work to crimp these wire ends on. One of the heads looks a lot like the crimping head in the BERU crimping tool for $325.

I don't have a link, but search: Spark Plug Wire Crimper, and two of them will show up.

I wonder is anyone on here knows for sure?
