Correcting PO stereo mess help needed...
So, I have the majority of the interior out of the $1400 Euro-S (See other thread if unfamiliar: http://forums.rennlist.com/rennforum...-now-what.html)
Basically going through and cleaning every piece before I begin re-placing it in the car. I figured this would be a good time to get a stereo working.
The PO seems like he pulled everything in a hurry. Didnt leave the "cage" in the dash and cut the wires heading back to where I assume the amp was?
I have the head unit hooked up to what I suspect is the original power, ground, and remote line and that works well. The problem is I cannot trace any of the lines as lines to the speakers.
In the same loom as the power and gound there are 6 other wires: a positive and negative Green, Blue, and Brown. None of these wires when provided signal (i.e. input from the stereo) do anything.
On the passenger side there is a area that the PO sliced into and there are two bundles of eight wires. I suspected that there were speaker wires (Maybe a there and return from a hi/lo amp?) but none of these function either.
I'm lost... can anyone give me any guidance as to what color wires or where I should be looking to pick up the speaker lines? I can re-run if necessary, but I have to find them first and I would like not to pull the harness apart tracing it down.
Thanks in advance.

I'd do that first.

The early cars were two channel radios with a front rear fader **** near the hand brake. Sounds like maybe the fader **** was removed and leads spliced from the newer head unit. So look near the handbrake for more wires !

I don't have the manual cd's yet; anyone have a reliable rennlister to buy them from?
Anyone have a wire color guide or know hi the lines from the rear speakers run?

They used to be available for download here: www.cannell.co.uk/Manuals.htm, but I cannot seem to find the 928 manual there today. P.M. me an email address and I will email you the '79 wiring diagram which should be similar. It is 1.5MB which should not be a big deal.

Get a 1.5v dry battery cell, and the wires you think may be speakers. Speaker wires are generally colour pairs, with a black trace on the negative. Put the black trace wire on the neg end of the cell, and wipe the other wire on the pos end - you should get a crackle or static like noise if there is a working speaker on the other end. Resistance will typically be 4-8 ohms. Car radio wiring has had std colours for many years now, but not sure how far back it goes - green, grey, brown ,blue. Some have a single black ground for all the speakers, with multiple connectors.
