Looking at purchasing a beautiful, garage kept, 1987 928S4 Auto with 47K documented miles. No paintwork, no damage history, all VIN tags in place, flawless interior, perfect AutoCheck, bone stock down to Blaupunkt, TB service done within last 3000 miles/3 years.
What is she worth?
I have owned several Porsche's...this will be my first 928.
If it is as nice as you say... the value is probably in the high teens. On these cars, however, you really need to have a PPI. 43k isn't many miles but it is old enough to have a ton of deferred maint. - bit it doesn't sound like it.
As you probably know condition is what dictates a $9k car from a $19k car. At $23k, they are asking low-end GT level prices. Since it is an auto, I'd knock $4k off the price. Then it all comes down to service records and condition (mechanical and appearance).
If this is a dealer, be cautious.
Many people have ended up with a small fortune after buying a 928. The point is, they started with a large one before the 928.

Thanks for your response, so $19K would be a realistic price if the car checks out? Private party sale.
It would have to be a VERY nice S4 in my opinion, but yeah. $19k is not unheard of. I think there might be better deals out there if you're patient and flexible on options and colors.
I might know of an extremely pristine, low mile (23k I think), white with Nougat(?) interior - 5 speed. Not 100% sure it's for sale, though.
It is hard to get 19-20k for an S-4 when there are many neglected high miles cars for under $10k. Yet a real nice original car with low miles should be worth such a premium. Just few buyers understand that.
So at 19k you should plan on keeping it if you buy it.

What is this white beauty you speak of? I think it''s more like 50k miles and mahogany interior
Personally, I find it hard to swallow 19k price tag for an S4. It's a GT money and just a few thousands off GTS - either of which are more desirable then S4's.
In some ways you can argue that it should have another 100,000-150,000 miles of GOOD left in it and you could have a under $20K car that you could drive and enjoy for many years. What new cars can you get for that kind of money that you would enjoy driving or being seen driving ??

I agree on the GT pricing, but even a GT with 47k miles in good condition should fetch mid to upper 20's.
A GTS, however, will command significantly more. I would hazard a guess that a GTS with that kind of mileage would start in the 40's and could go for significantly more.

It is worth whatever you, the buyer is willing to pay for it...
For me personally, that is too much money for an S4. Forget the GT, I would hold out for a GTS even if it had higher mileage. You would not have to reach much further in your pocket by comparison to get one. You just have to keep looking and be ready when it comes up for grabs.
There is a 93 GTS, 5 speed on Autotrader for $34995 (Can always negotiate this) with 58,000 documented original miles, garage kept, all original, original paint and all except rims, well documented service records with all receipts and just had a full service done at 55,000 miles including timing belt. 1 of 24 cars made for the USA. Offer low and go from there if interested.
If the car is well sorted out, everything working, no leaked, its worth mid to hi teens as you can easy put 10k in any 928 that is not sorted out.
Also for me it would depend on color combo / options, none have been mentioned in this post.
