The hall sensor has apparently been unplugged since I have owned my car. I have seen the three pronged connector mounted on the fuel rail before, but I assumed it was a diagnostic port or something, until I traced the wire to the hall sensor. I cannot find any pigtail that plugs into it. It would be great if someone could take a look at their engine for me and trace the hall sensor into a wiring loom. My car is a 1984 model. Thanks in advance.

on newer cars the hall sensor plugs into the harness at the front engine hoist bracket very close to the passenger side ignition coil........not exactly sure of the '84 my, hope that helps.

I don"t believe any 928 before the 32 valve had a Hall Sensor (passenger side sort of under the outside of the cam cover)which is the not the same as the Crank Position Sensor (located at the back of the engine centered on top of the bell housing)which is only on LH equipped 928s (1984-1986 Euro 16 valve cars and all 928s from 1985 up) The 1987 S4 and up did have a connector on the passenger fuel rail for one of the knock sensors. Can you post a picture showing the connector and its location?

Crank sensor? Hall sensor? (NOT THE SAME THING) You don't have the latter (Hall). Your car would not run w/o the former hooked up (crank position sensor). You may be getting confused by a TDC test sensor which is not used.

Destructo, Is what you're looking at a round plug with 3 round male plugs inside arranged in a triangle? If so, that was supposed to be used for a test port.

That is exactly what I am looking at. My old computer crashed, so I am devoid of workshop manuals right now. They don't appear to be hosted on Cannell any longer.
So, I was correct in my assumption that it is a test port. I knew a car couldn't run without a hall sensor (if designed with one), but I was thinking maybe the car was in limp home mode.
My CASIS light stays on constantly, so I wasn't sure if it could be related. The CASIS light only has a "go really fast forward" meaning to me, since it doesn't work, and I have never known any different. I think we all know when we want to shift anyway.
Thanks, guys. Glad to know I can rest easy.
