So after reading this thread I have some ideas..

It would be very helpful to post some pictures of the various parts you have inspected
IE the CPS and the engine from the front. The CE panel as it sits.
NOTE the CE panel inspection of the rear side should be investigated further,
for the gray wires having a shine to the insulation this would indicate the wire got hot

First remove each damper and regulator vacuum line and smell them,
if any smell of gas then that part is bad.
The fuel in the intake is the clue that one or more of these parts is bad.
NOTE dont add pressure to the vacuum side of the dampers, a vacuum is used to test these parts.
Use the smell test as its more accurate.

With a loaner computer installed and still no joy,
this leads to coil wires shorting out,
especially noting the cat was glowing red this means unburned fuel is hitting the cat.

Remove both of the coil wires from the caps and coils and inspect the ends,
If you find that the ends have corroded then clean the connections also inspect the cable run,
Important, .... the wire should not be touching anything.
if it is then the wire is probably shorting out, and needs to be replaced.

The CPS, need a picture to determine the status of repairs,
you may need a new CPS,
the usual failure mode is,
the CPS side of the connection has a crumbling plug thus the wires short ,
The cure is replace the CPS.

NOTE if the CPS has a crumbling plug its a safe bet the knock sensors and the hall sensor are in the same condition,
The Cure is an intake refresh to replace all of these parts

From the info provided you have a shorting ignition system and possibly a failed CPS and possibly failed fuel dampers and FPR.

You only need to swap out the 4 running relays,
to do that you need to print off a fuse relay chart and verify that you have the correct relay in the correct slot,
it is common to have misplaced the relay position and then the engine wont run.

Swap out one at a time the X ignition relay, LH , EZK, and fuel pump,
All of these are 53 relays
Roger sells good relays for this, replace them one at a time.

Get a 2 amp / 6 amp battery charger and charge the battery on 6 amps with the ground disconnected,
your trickle isnt sufficient to recharge the battery

NOTE there should be empty places for the some relay slots
Same goes for the fuses inspect them and verify that the fuses are in the correct slots.

Fuse relay chart here www.928gt.com.
find page 2 then look under tips and links for the fuse relay chart print one off.

Remove the spark plugs and see if any of them smell of gas
Use Bosch part #7900 silver tips about 1.99 at Azone.

Install a good working MAF to test after all of the other things are inspected
Please Report your findings and post some pictures

Tried to repair the CPS?

Its so painful to watch a brother economize on resurrecting a supercar.

No, the CPS is new, the wiring harness that leads to the connector was shot, so I repaired it with new wires and soldered them properly. I wish it was the wiring that went right to the CPS, I would have just pulled that out and ordered a new one. I was on my chest laying on the intake till 10PM last night fixing wires that only gave me about 2" to to work with.

Mr Merlin,
Thank you for your well thought out plan of attack. I greatly appreciated your suggestions and will follow all of them which I have not done already.
I pulled the CE panel and the back of it looked good and was never affected by my minor fire. I pulled the ignition wires from the coil and the plugs and they are in good shape. Nothing touching. I cleaned all grounds except for the two on the bellousing, which I will try to get to by this weekend. I replaced the ground strap at the battery and cleaned all contacts both positive and negative. When I pulled the plugs this morning before work, all 8 were dry with black soot on them. I cleaned them all off and gave them a shot of starter fluid and let them dry out for the rest of the day as they are brand new Bosch factory spec plugs. All fuses were checked and replaced accordingly. I replaced maybe two or three #53 relays so far. I will replace the remaining one's within a week when I have some more free time. I pulled all the vacuum lines going to the Dampeners and the Regulator while I had my fiancee cranking the car and not a drop of fuel came out. I had the battery tested at Autozone and had it slow charged. It tested 100%. I am going to put the plugs back in, spray a bit of starter fluid in the throttle body and try it again. Will report back this evening. Thanks,
Anthony-

Woooah,, can you please post pictures of the parts that i asked about your CPS repair is in question .

Also please describe the small fire you just mentioned ,
and please post pictures of the area that got burned.

At this point not posting pictures will reduce the possibility of a proper diagnosis

Ok, so I was on the phone with Bill earlier and we were running through my start problems. We were speaking about the relays and which were which. I had mentioned that the one of the relays that I did not replace so far was the "Test" relay. I thought that since it was able to test fuses properly with the green light luminating that it worked. I assumed wrong!!! I pulled it out and put a new 53 relay in and the car fired right up, but idled at 4000 rpm. Bill and I thought there was either a huge vacuum leak or the throttle was sticking. It turned out to be a vacuum hose coming from under the intake going to the tree in the back. I plugged it back in and she purred like a kitten. Idled rock steady and when I hit the throttle she came to life for the first time ever with a growl that I never heard come from this engine bay before. She's alive!!!

I tested the brakes, checked for leaks put the car in reverse and all gears up and down my driveway and all was good. I pulled it out just to go up the block and back and when I tried to nail the throttle the car drove slow and then died up the hill. I forgot to charge the battery fully and more importantly, check to see if the charging system was working properly. I ran down the block, got my workvan and jumped the Porsche and she fired right up beautifully. I drove her home and I am slow charging the battery for the night out of the car.

The "I" buttom on the center console is flashing and the check oil light is coming on, but the oil level is fine. Still some gremlins ofcourse, but I cant believe how fast the car starts now and how it idles so beautifully. Once I work the electrical gremlins out, I plan on changing the plug wires, distributors, coils and pull the intake off and do an overhaul. Thank you so much to everyone for all the help. I know I still have a ways to go, but tonight was a milestone for sure!

Mr Merlin,
I have another post which gives an in depth to the fire "Needle In a Haystack". You can check it out if you like. The Crank Position sensor wires have been soldered and individually been closed up. Nothing to take pics of there. I will take a pic of the CE panel this weekend.

It's amazing how things work out. It was like the car wanted me to fix all that I have already before it would run. Blessing in disguise as I did a lot to this car in the 2 very short months that I have owned it.

These cars make you smile when you have them properly sorted.

Congrats on your progress.

I just want to go over the car with a fine tooth comb and sort everything out.

That's the spirit!

We've refreshed a number of them now and find that is the best way.
Otherwise, something is constantly failing.

We've seen guys spend thousands for TB jobs, but all they get is a belt and a few obvious part changes.
And sensors, but no vac / intake job is done --- old intake rubber put back!

Fine-tooth keeps you out of the cab of the flatbed. BTDT, not liking it.
