Cure for a jammed seat?
When I bought my '89 the PO told me that passenger's seat wouldn't move forward or back. Tried it once, no go. Didn't think too much about it the time 'cause there were lots of more pressing issues to deal with.
Just scored a pair of mint replacement seats & tried to pull the passenger seat in order to install the new seats. The P seat was far enough back to access the front socket head bolts, but it won't move forward at all. The motor works, but the seat doesn't move. When I try to move it manually it wouldn't budge. Pulled the cover off and found that someone had been in there before me. About half the teeth are stripped off of both the drive and driven gears. Trying to move it forward manually just breaks off more teeth.
The seat is well and truly JAMMED and I can't figure out how to move it forward to access the rear mounting bolts.
Anyone know the secret handshake?

I had the exact problem yesterday!!!

I disconnected the cable going into the seat motor that drive the seats forward / backward. Then put a small cresent wrench on the cable and turned it forward and back while some shook, pushed, and pulled on the seat, until it came loose.

The plastic seat gear does look like 1/2 the teeth is broken, so I order a new gear and it looks the same with 1/2 the gear teeth missing. Don't ask my why they did that.

OK, I was able to move my seat forward by pulling both drive cable ends out of the "transmission" and chucking them in a cordless drill and running the seat forward one side at a time (note that to move forward one cable has to turn clockwise and the other turns counter-clockwise).
For jthwas22, the upper gear for manually adjusting the seat does have a space that looks like it's missing teeth. This is to allow the upper gear to "idle" when the electric motor is spinning the lower gear. Mine had a bunch of teeth broken off of both gears from trying to move it while jammed.
Don't know why my seat was jammed, it moved freely using the drill. When I got it out, however, I saw that one of the rear height adjusters was the whole way up & and the other was the whole way down - maybe this "torqued" the seat frame enough to jam it...? Anyway, the new seats are in and looking good.

If your seat still had the rubber "washers" at the end of movement, these sometimes fuse to the movable part and to the stationary frame. Everyone who knows about these and their potential problems has probably cut them off (dikes are the usual tool!).
Might check that on the new seats before installation.
