Default Broken threads in head.

Hi, I got the cam cover off without any issues. 87 S4Name: my cam.jpg

I found that the bolt hole for one of the top cam bolts is not stripped but half of the casting is broken away.. Any suggestions on how to repair? it is the second bolt back on the top row of the Pass. side. It wasnt leaking, so i may just have to let it go.
Cam tension pads are discolored, but saw no grooves, teeth look good..Any other inspections while in there? I will R&R again in the fall to do a refresh.

thnx
john

Interesting. Wonder where that piece went. Hopefully, sitting harmlessly in the oil pan and not blocking an oil return passage in the head.

As far as the cam cover goes, I wouldn't worry about it. It's not structural and it's on the high part of the head and wasn't leaking before and shouldn't be a problem.

Are there enough threads left to tighten it back down?

Hey Bob...
Nope, no threads at all...This happened well before i bought it....Several thousand miles ago...There wasnt any evidence or remnants of anything on the head..The covers didnt have any build up or on them either. I hadnt planned on dropping the pan until next spring when i do the gasket and mounts..Not much i can do about it in tho...It is either gonna be a problem or not...I may try to see if i can get a fiber optic camera and investigate that way...

Well then, I guess just make sure you put some high temp gasket sealer on the bolt so it doesn't leak and doesn't pop out.

Anyone else have any ideas?
