If you're doing DE's and track days, I'd recommend buying a fixed back racing seat and installing it just for those days. I'm 6'6" and have been looking into seats that provide more headroom for some time now. The fixed back seats can be installed very low and provide the most headroom of any seat in my experience. Plus they make driving the car so much fun - they provide great feedback.

And I don't want to cut the seat mounting rails, or otherwise modify my 928, but someday I would like to look into modifying a stock 928 seat. Make it a manual seat, cut the seat down wherever possible, consider less foam in the seat bottom, have it built by a professional. Might as well convert it to sport seat specs while I'm at it.

So far, in both my old '85 auto, and my '88 S4 5 sp, I've tried the stock electric seats in every possible position + Sparco deep dish steering wheel (to bring the steering wheel closer to me while I'm reclined WAY back) - not enough headroom.

Bought a Sparco R100 reclining sport seat, didn't give me near as much room as I thought it would. Sold it.

Bought a '944 manual seat, I thought for sure it would provide way more headroom. Nope, it did provide more headroom, but not enough to make it worth it.

The old Sparco Sprint fixed back seat has the most headroom by far, and its very comfortable. The only issue is getting in and out of the car is a hassle.

Thanks for the guidance. This helps alot.

Right now with the stock seats in a comfortable position I am about 1.5 inches from the roof line in my (sunroof equipped) car.

If I could get another inch that would be ideal. I suspect the 944 seats will do this for me.

I am trying to stay away from a fixed back seat because I have those in my race car (1993 Eagle Talon Turbo AWD 5 spd. 500 HP... in case anyone asks) and that is the last thing I want for this car.

Yeah I tried every possible position with my '85 at a DE in Jan. Put the seat as low as it would go & had to tilt & lean it back. With the best possible combination of settings & even at 5'9"(on a good day), my helmet still will hit the roof at times if I don't lean forward just right so the top of my helmet was in the recess of the sunroof. And its not ideal at all cause I had to lean forward to accomplish this since I had to have the seat back too much for my liking(but still could safely drive). I messed around with it so much that once I had what I thought was the best combination, I left it that way since I went to another DE in April & plan on one this fall too.

I've looked at lots of seats just with the thought of getting something decent that I could put in for DEs & take back out. There are many choices. I don't want to buy seats that either don't fit right or don't sit lower. And the brackets are critical for the fit. Surely some of the racers & DE'ers have some trusted seats that do the job. Of course, wanting it all my way, I'm hoping there's something out there that won't cost a fortune just for a handful of DE's & autocrosses a year.

Although I can't forget the post in another thread where someone said they had cheap seats & in the middle of driving around the track the seat back collapsed! Wow!
