New 928 owner.
Hi everyone, I am a new owner of not one, but two 928s. I decided once I started checking parts prices I needed a parts vehicle, so off to ebay I went. I ended up with a complete 85 with a running 5.0 engine. Title issues left this one for parts only. The other is an 83 that I plan to fix up and drive. Now, I have not had any luck figuring this one out. It came as a good running and decent cond. 928 with quite a story. I will just say it was suppose to have came from another country or two. I can't confirm anything I was told, other than it has a kilo speedo and Euro H4 head lamps. Rear bumper appears to be a later model and the leather interior is two tone. Engine has what appears to be a set of long tube headers installed. Can anyone shed some light on this vehicle for me? Any input will be appreciated. BTW I am a car nut and have owned several Porsches in the past, but never a 928.

Looks like someone has been seriously messing with the car. The rear bumper cover is an S4 which would need some some body modification to fit. I cannot tell from the angle of the picture is the bumper cover is an aftermarket one or not. There were some aftermarket fiberglass S4 bumper covers made for the early cars. You can look at the sides to tell. If the side wraps around to the wheel well and the material is soft then it is a S4 bumper. if it is hard and comes straight down on the body then it is an aftermarket cover. To keep the car stock you should consider replacing it.
Many of the engine parts off the 85 will not fit on the 83. The engine is different. Although with a 5.0 block you could build a hybrid engine to get a bit more power. The transmission if it is an auto will fit, if the 85 is a five speed then you could do a conversion. One thing to consider is either converting the alternator to a Delco or possibly upgrading to the 85 and solving some of the potential electrical issues.
Good luck with the car.

Welcome ... nice to see you posting pics first up ... usually we have to ask. Everyone should have two 928's. ....
The VIN confirms it as a US car.

Thanks for the responses, I will get an under the hood pic posted up later. The rear bumper is indeed plastic and not fiberglass. I am no at all concerned with keeping it completely stock as I like the look of the later rear cover. I am thinking someone was trying to upgrade it and make it look newer than it is. Would a US car ever be built with the kilometer speedo? Perhaps for a Canadian car? I was told it came through Canada on its way to me. I realize the engines are different, but I believe most everything else will interchange and both are autos. I already have the brake booster pulled and ready to install in the 83, what a pia to remove, back still hurts. Thanks for the vin decoding and both seats are power as listed, radio is unk as it was changed out by the po. I may be selling some stuff, e-mail me with what you need. Thanks again.

Other than some uncomfortable positions the brake booster should come out easily enough. After you take the master cylinder off disconnect the pedal linkage. Use the linkage to push the push rod as far forward as possible. I generally do it in two stages using the brass piece disconnected for the second push. Use a pair of vice grips on the outside of the booster to keep the push rod at the maximum position. Remove the brass part of the booster from inside the car on the booster. Count the number of threads for reinstalling.
With the linkage removed and the push rod locked in place the booster slides easily out of the car. Should not take much more then an hour.

Now for the bad, this car has been in an accident, hence my needing a parts car. I have started with the rebuild and just today managed to get the left qtr cut from the parts car. Not too bad of a job, more of a skin than anything. Lots of spot welds to drill out. I will be utilizing the left qtr, left door, left fender and the frt bumper because I like the brake ducts. Anyone know of any alternatives the 928 frt spoiler that looks decent? I could use just the center section of something and modify it to work.
