I didn't take a close-up of the qtr, but it already has had a bunch of hammering to it to get it where it is. Its in pretty sad shape and I am really not up to the task of working almost that whole qtr in bondo. I will have less time in replacing the panel vs massaging that mess.
The fun continues, replacement qtr has been removed and is waiting to be utilized. I have discovered several things, first as mentioned earlier as a possibility, the rear cover is indeed fiberglass as I apparently didn't pay close enough attention. I also noticed when I removed the qtr interior trim that it has been dyed white. A bunch of crazy stuff going on with this thing. I may run a carfax and try to figure out some of its history.
Updated front & rear bumper covers for the early cars usually come from AIR (American International Racing) and are indeed made of fiberglass. The seams usually mimic those from the early cars (vertical vs. notched) as previously mentioned.
Two-tone interiors originally from the factory would (at most) consist of contrast piping on the seats and other interior panels would have contrast stitching (if leather). Door panels would have contrasting inserts & lower carpet pieces. Dash & pod would be 1 color -the darker of the two... seats would be the lighter color.
Not uncommon to have custom interior skins from Rob Budd or Paul Champagne show up in 928's these days... so if you like what the p.o. did to yours, then it's all good -and nobody else's concern. Let negative commentary about 'non-stock' items roll off your back like water off a duck -it's your car... build it like you want to.
Great advice and thanks for the welcome. You are correct, frt piping will work, rear will not. looks like the rear will be RTV just like it was prior to my removing it.
Its been close to 6 mos. since I started working on this thing. I've been sidetracked several times as I also like Jeeps and seem to spend most of time working on them. I finally got the qtr welded up, lft door jammed out and installed and the left fender mounted.
I am painting this thing in sections mainly because of space constraints. When parked in the center of bay I can't easily maneuver around the car for fear of accidently bumping into the side of it. I went with satin black and really like it.
