Vacuum routing in dash...HELP!
I am having a lot of trouble figuring the vacuum routing out in the dash. The manual makes no sense to me. Is there any clear way to tell what color connects to what???? I had to swap out another heater box while it was apart. I noticed then some of the linkage was a little different. Also the copper strip across the front has only one vacuum attachment....manual seems to show the strip full with 6 or 7 connections. I have ll the electric connections accounted for I think...just need this vacuum done and the dash goes back in.

Welcome to the vacuum club. I found out my actuators are broken and missing bottom piece to center air flow thingy. Thanks for pics since I have not removed the dash yet.
I think that diagram does explain everything, color, connection point, position, etc. I had to look at it for days to get it into my head. I also color coded it with pens showing the colored hose routing. Alas, mine does not work. I think I need new everything.

I am missing the entire vacuum manifold ( 5 solenoids ). I will need to find one before I go any further. Thanks for the input.

Dean,
I *think* that the AC vacuum manifold changed substantially for 1980 & newer. The manual page that you show may not be the correct one. Check page 87-104 for a schematic that looks like mine (an '81) and the one in Dwayne's write-up. The parts diagrams show that this change occurred in 1980 - I believe that your car is an '80.
It looks to me from your dash picture that someone removed all but one of the vacuum solenoids and then just hacked the hoses together randomly. You have the solenoid bracket and one disconnected solenoid.
What a mess - Good luck!

Well...just got off the phone with roger. My A/C head unit is vacuum so all I am suppose to have is ONE solenoid...not 5. So thats great news. He is sending me another vacuum diagram for the early cars tomorrow. Man...I was really starting to worry this was all messed up. Feel better now....Miller Time!

Mine doesn't have the single solenoid rack
.
Where is your vacuum connector to you hvac head? Pic above.
PS. Don't follow how mine is hooked up. Was completely wrong.the.way I found it.

The 78 is completely different from newer cars. There is no climate control. That started in 1980 with the addition of inside and outside senors. The control is mounted from the back of the center console not the front. I think there may even be a cable involved.
Good luck
