Default Diaphragm on 928Spec AFPR

The Diaphragm on the Adjustable Fuel Pressure Regulator from 928 Specialists seems to be done. I was wondering if anyone ever found out if there is a replacement? It sure seems to be just a round piece of rubber. It would be nice to be able to replace just that piece.

Last time I had it apart it felt like very thin "Realgasket" like for oil pan gaskets.

Any hints?

They were made by 'Huntley Racing'. They made AFPRs for many different makes.

A few years ago, they had a website, but it is not valid anymore.

BC,

Those were made by Kirban Performance, http://www.kirbanperformance.com

We are no longer a dealer, but give them a call and see if they have a replacement diaphragm.

If they can't help you, or you want to completely replace your old one, I should have a demo unit, and may even have some new ones left over...I will check tomorrow to confirm. If I do for sure have some I can sell you a demo unit for $50, or a brand new one for $75.

Please shoot me an email so I don't forget with all the SITM prep going on.

Dave

Huntley. They were here in San Diego. Long since out of business, and for them, for good reason.

This is possibly what we are talking about, though I assume dave had separate bodies made for our use on the 928:

I guess the reason it lasted so long is because of seal being viton - it sure seems like its a flouro-compound of some kind.

Looks like they were able to CNC all sorts of shapes, keeping with the same basic idea. So hopefully, if Dave is out of new/used ones, this place has some diaphragms laying around: http://www.kirbanperformance.com/pro...R+%235005.html

Oops. My bad. I bought my AFPR through HR (in 2003).

I remember now that Kirban was on the instructions.

Huntley was a Kirban dealer, like we were... in the very beginning we bought them from Huntley as they told us they made them....didn't take long to figure out who really made them. :-)

I don't even see them listed there for Porsche applications any more, maybe after we gave up waiting for them and stopped even trying to sell them, they dropped that line??

That works, thanks. I will check next trip to the shop, I may have some in my "hidden from Jeannie" stash. :-)

We had really great luck with them for ages...other than 1 or 2, most issues or tech calls were related to all the "smart Pro mechanics" attempting to install them ON THE FRONT of the engine...

If I had a dollar for each tech call.... "I put this on this 928 here in the shop and it won't run now, it's defective"....my first question was always " where do you THINK the fuel pressure regulator is on a 928"...the typical response was " I have been working on Fuel Injection systems for 20 years, I KNOW where it is at"....."OK, where is it"......"right there on the front of the engine"...."OK, try mounting it on the right rear location and I bet you $1000 it will run perfectly..and OH, put the INPUT Damper back on the front first"...grrrrrrrr

Of course the other one was also similar, but added even more insult to the situation..."I need a replacement, this is defective, after mounting on the front and it didn't work, I even tried blowing 120PSI of AIR thru it, and it's defective".....me, "yeah, it certainly is now,...we will send you a new one right out....and BTW, if you blow 120PSI thru this one to "test it", you will pay for the next replacement. FYI, it's a fuel regulator, not an AIR regulator".

lol. 120psi. hah. This thing has basically lasted just under 10 years without doing the "fuel in the vac line" trick. 12,000 of the last miles was on ethanol. No issues. Except for now, which I much more attribute to age and abuse than the actual fuel.

Thanks! Look forward to hearing from you.

BTW I forgot to ask, what year is this for? The early version has a nipple outlet, and the late version has a threaded outlet.

Let me know,

Dave
